Other 944 forums?

Which other 944 forums do people use? Facebook seems to be populated by posters that often spout hearsay and nonsense. Rennlist, there's plenty of knowledge but it's often buried, and some of the posters that know what they're talking about, have been banned or moved on. Pistonheads, pretty much dead after I was banned [:D]. Tipec, sadly seems to be fading. Carpokes, early days but promising. Recently I've revisited Pelican parts after years away, still some interesting posts, but mostly from the past. Any others?

Nearly 80 views, but no replies. Indifference contributes to the decline of one make forums...

Didn't have much to add! Mostly here - though do follow some on facebook, insta but not really a forum replacement more an addition in my opinion, still use rennlist to search out some old threads but there is a lot of cr*p to crawl through.
My user name is @944Turbo on Instagram but out of about 90 pics only around 5 are 944 related so pretty poor effort!

Added a few more 944 pics to my instagram almost in double figures on the 944 content now.

Well I'm happy on here...usually some good advice and good humour too of course! I enjoy the awesome turbo rebuilds, and sharing the agony of unforseen and expensive bills!! My recent clutch/flywheel job called for deep pockets!
Our ex Region 19 group has enough current/former transaxle owners to be helpful, and a bit of light relief from the 996/997 owners! This is all promoted at regular breakfast meetings.
Not interested in social media sites, but I do think about TIPEC occasionally when exasperated by PCGB...occasionally on Pelican Parts.

I find Farcebook frustrating in the extreme. It is great for sharing pictures of puppies (guilty as charged) but trying to find any specific information is a nightmare.

Part of the core reason for this forum is to maintain historic posts, so a search here should glean 15+ years of wisdom in one way or another.

Perhaps I've assumed the mantle of forum grumpy old man (following in the tyre tracks of Fen and 944 man) But there should be some correction of the misinformation that's sometimes posted. For example, the 220 isn't better than the 250 turbo, the turbo S isn't better than the 89 on turbo, and the 968 CS isn't better than the Sport. Clear? Good. [:D]

I've PM'd you about seats...recall you fitting some years back! Can't find your detailed write up.
My driver's seat has started to go...trimmer might manage a repair, who knows?!

I frequent the same forums as you Blade - particularly find rennlist my main "one source of truth" these days, but even that has slowed down to a crawl compared to what it was over 10 years ago.

Facebook groups are full of people giving the wrong advice which is hilarious and annoying both at the same time, which makes me just want to not look.

As a newbie I frequent all of them. As you say, Rennlist is good for searching, and here as well, but a lot of it is old (I know some things don't change.) FB is at least up-to-date, even if it is wrong :) Some stuff on FB is good, from my perspective, and I save the posts I want to follow up on. I watch a lot of the 944 content on Youtube, and IMO there are very good contributors for someone like me, but it's not a forum.
I have appreciated the help I have received here from the regular few who contribute. You have been there and done it several times, plus you have pushed the envelope of what these cars can achieve. But the PCGB forum is hardly buzzing - even the 997 group is quiet by comparison to other forums.
There is a gap for something better, but it needs a larger number of users than there appears to be. What are you looking for? It would be interesting to know which FB groups you follow.

Hadn't heard of some of those TBH. Though if I see slammed ride height, stretched tyres, silly amounts of camber, or deluded posters claiming the S2 is the best 944, I'm off. You do have a point about youtube though.

:ROFLMAO:

Last post that made me roll my eyes was someone who had removed the bell housing without removing the sensors first, asking why the bracket had broken....

And the silly N/A vs Turbo posts on the no snob group are getting to be boring.

not directly related but stumbled across this https://porschecarshistory.com/category/porsche-944/ which is an interesting collection of 944 related magazine articles.

I have started adding a few 944 pics to my instagram daily and stumbled across some I had saved of the 9ff 944, googling it I found the link above, I can't find any articles on it though!

I totally agree with the comment on N/A vs Turbo posts on the no snob group - and "founder" Casey Putsch is right up himself. Even some of the dedicated Turbo forums have a belittling tone at times. The truth is you have to do a sniff test as you scroll through FB - ignore the crap because that isn't ever going away, and just focus on what floats your boat. I follow the FB 997 Carrera Owners UK, and they are a knowledgeable and friendly bunch - very helpful - and of course 911uk.com is an excellent forum for 997 owners. There is a member called Demort, who is a Porsche tech in the Brighton area and he shares an incredible amount of knowledge - without any hint of elitism!
That goes to the nub of it - numbers. Lots of 997 cars on the road, lots of longtime owners, lots of new people buying them, so a vibrant community. The 944 numbers in the UK appear quite small, it would be interesting to know how many new owners join PCGB or even come across the forum.
Regarding Youtube, I recommend watching the following.
@EuropeanAutoCraftStudios
This is a series about a rebuild of a turbo car, and the guy taking it apart before putting it back together. This is currently ongoing and he is still in the disassembly stage. Good filming and audio, already 36 episodes.
@NC944er
This guy is amazing, and he is an absolute pro with filming and audio. He runs through the whole car explaining in detail - very matter of fact, but an amazing resource.
@irina25661
This guy is also good - German speaking but with English subtitles!

Totally agree about 911uk - great resource, I pop in now and again for 996 stuff and have had some good advice from demort in the past.

Yes I've watched a couple of the European auto craft studios clips. Very informative, but think I'll wait until he's finished and then cherry pick the best bits. Same with irina. Their laid back delivery reminds me of the best instructors when I was at tech college.

There's a guy called NC944er on youtube, that has quite a lot of 944 repair videos on his channel.

Agree re YouTube - some of the video content has been really useful to familiarise with the 944, and Brazilian T2 campers prior to that.

It easy to generalise about best or worst but we are all coming from different angles and requiring different outcomes.
Once my rolling restoration becomes Historic next month I'm contemplating a hand painted matt black finish. Some will think me the anti-christ but each to their own.....!

If that's all it takes then here you go : the S2 is the best 944!
