As said hope you are OK looks a bad one that did not happen in Asda car park ,has it been scrapped ,its a bugger when you are down to your last Porsche [:D][:D]

yes I'm much better now thanks ...the car is indeed written off...the assessor quoted £43k to repair, so i can only guess the engine wasn't as lucky as me......

Ouch - What happened exactly? I read on the Pistonheads forum that allot of GT3's have been pranged over the winter months?

sorry to see that ian - the greasy roads this time of year are lethal and unpredictable- the winter months always do wonders to knock down the stock levels of GTs [&:]

i was driving south on M6 motorway just after Christmas...drove into one of those torrential downpours.... took foot of accelerator (bad mistake) and coasted into third lane as a very slow car in front of me.... hit standing water and the back end snapped hitting the central reservation before i could do anything about it..spun across three lanes and hit the inner reservation ...just so thankful i didn't collect anyone along the way....I've now been told to get a turbo, 4wheel drive and all that ...but i so enjoyed my very brief ownership of the GT"¦at this rate there wont be many left..i know of two others crashed and written off in the last two months...

Shame as the car looked fantastic,I guess your lucky to have not hit anyone else and that you are physically ok. I have a C4S and the 4WD in the torrentail rain does not seem to make a difference as the car feels very wayward to be honest - i went to a wet track day at the end of last year and left with my tail between my legs as the car seemed like an accident waiting to happen. I would guess the TT would feel even worse with the extra power?

Wither any car could have made it through deep standing water is another question.

Very scarey. Glad you are OK. I know from the skid pan lessons I did that, once a 911 has gone, it's gone big time and there is no bringing it back. You really have to catch it very early and I guess standing water is, if anything, worse.

Had several similar experiences with the car becoming close to unmanageable in standing water on the motorway.

Drove up the M6 last friday in the Maser and initially was bricking it because of the torrential rain and standing water, but it sailed through it all. That is one thing that I do not miss from the 993.

OUCH indeed, glad you are OK.

Did it perchance have the original Cup spec tyres on it? ... I gather they are lethal in the wet.

The real trouble is that the traffic generally does not recognise the dangers of changing winter conditions and carries on regardless. I went down the A1 last Saturday morning at about 7:30 am, and it was just one huge sheet of black ice. I was being cautious, but the same folk who I normally pass were passing me, quite unaware of the dangers. Just north of Eyemouth there was a grey Ferrari 355 (could have been a Noble, hard to tell from the remains) totally stuffed into the side of the road.

cup tyres weren't standard until 997....

To me it was a big problem with the GT3 - it doesn't like any depth of standing water at all, there was a couple of times I was driving along in mine when I hit some standing water and the car literally changed lanes - fortunately nothing more than a new pair of undercrackers required, but ended up making me drive at 50mph everywhere when it rained...

Have found my 996TT to be excellent in wet weather, Very surefooted, even to the extent of
making you feel too secure in the conditions.

Alan (Gotta996) would say you should get your tracking checked on your car, as after i had mine
done when i first got it it really transformed the feel of the car.

See you all Wed Night

Cheers Al
