Ouch! Windscreen Damage

During a run on the M4 last week I caught a massive stone at the top of the windscreen, right into the green tinted area.[]
The last thing I want is a replacement screen and all the potential problems that go with it.
Anyone know a conscientious & reliable windscreen specialist who can do chip repairs?

How big is the chip?

Autoglass can repair it if it is smaller than a £1 coin - there is some information on this on their web site >HERE<

If you go through your Insurers if the damage is repairable it is normally done without having to pay the windscreaen excess.

I had mine done due to a chip three weeks after purchase. The little crack was repaired but is still vissible. Hasn't got worse in 18months. (touch wood)

Thanks both for your advice. I think I will contact the insurance company first - sounds attractive that the repair might not cost me anything, but being suspicious I'd like to see whether my NCD will be affected.
I wonder if the fact that the chip is in the green tint area will make life more difficult?

I was on the M4 today (just west of Reading I think), in my wife's Boxster.

BANG![:-][:(][]

All I saw was a large stone/small rock bounce off the middle of the windscreen. Damage was beyond repair, so I popped into Porsche Swindon on the way home and they will replace it tomorrow (as new with no complications) and I'll have to pay a £50 excess.

C'est la vie.

????? I had mine replaced about 2 or 3 weeks ago without fuss or problem. The old one came out in 1 piece and the new one was glued back in.... My insurers use RAC auto windscreens and the guy was very competant....

Tim - glad yours went AOK but I guess I have just heard too many scare stories recently. A friend had a 911 screen damaged whilst with the OPC for service and it took 4 goes for Autoglass to get the right screen; each time wasting his time going back, waiting etc. And my brother (in the auto trade) has witnessed damage from screens being cheese-wired out and taking the paint down to the metal in the process & in-screen aerials being severed and not reconnected after etc etc.
Maybe I'm paranoid, or just looking for a recommendation of a good-un in the east Berkshire area...[;)]
