Leading evermore exiting lives, the dynamic duo are at it again, next stop is drifting at Oulton for the day. Booked through Trackaction (there is a discount code [;)]) places should be availble still. Anyone whom would like to come and spectate (moreover laugh) are more than welcome.

As always, a small report will follow, notwithstanding me complaining about how dirty my car has become.

Well. Here goes for a quick report...
As JP mentioned the "dynamic duo" [;)][:D] were "playing out" again....
The venue ,, Oulton Park drift course, actually the 2 rally stages..
These are twisty + VERY VERY low grip tarmac "stages" .. Made even slippery when the surface needs "quietening down" ei soaking with water. Aparently they have abide by strict noise regs, when the tarmac is dry it creats lost of tyre squeel + the Oulton neibours complain....[8|][8|][8|][8|]
For gods sake its a RACE circuit....But lets not go there....

Anyway. It REALY is LOW grip...As we both soon found out... Its SO easy to spin the cars .. After the initial embarasments [:)][:)][:)] of spinning on the second corner, third corner , in fact almost ALL corners,,, we both got into our stride + began to "try" and "tame" our wayward 968,s...
This is no mean feat, considdering the mods we have both done to our cars.. Now they are FAB on sticky track rubber on a grippy surface, BUT when it comes to a surface not that far removed from ice, its a whole different ball game...They are VERY twitchy + snappy...Basically if your car is pretty standard ie sofly set up, then itl be great, but NOT if you have stiff race suspension + solid bushing all round...
Buy the afternoon , we thought we had the cars tamed...[:D][:D] NOT a chance...More 360deg spins ensued...[8|][8|][8|] . It was after all a bit / lot of a giggle....we were managing to hold some obscene drift angles though..[;)][:D][;)][:D] All-be it slowly....

I would recomend this to anyone wanting to get to grips with there car, whatever make, so long as its rear wheel drive...+ If you dont mind it getting very mucky...Although there isnt as much mud + grit as there used to be, as they have widened + conned off sections to stop folk realy going mad...

Have FUN , we did....
Although going by the finishing colour of our cars. I think JP wasnt trying quite as hard as i was.....[;)][:D][;)][:D][;)][:D][;)][:D][8|][8|][8|][8|][8|]

The Dynamic duo,s [;)][:D] next "outing" is on Saturday 8th August.. Cadwell Park...[Circuit days are the organisers]..
If your around, just drop by + enjoy the fun....

you guys are unstoppable !! looking forward to the next report

-- did you try changing your set up at all? would have thought that disconnected arb's might have been something to try

Hey paul...
Got to keep the 968,s running + using them as intended....[;)][:D][;)]
I dont think the change in setting wouldve done much good. Its REALY low grip...

What a bleedin disaster; car ended up filthy with glue like mud, inside and out! Car was all over the place, couldn't keep it in a straight line.....the back end kept flicking out when i was trying to go around the corners. Well at least i had the sense to use someone elses wheels instead of mine so at least i kept them clean (thanks Dave) (hope they didn't take too long to clean [8|])

Why am i moaning, its a damn sight easier to go in straight lines on a race circuit than this drifting lark - VERY difficult to master, especially at speed. Spent most of the time in first or second gear (mostly second), simply didnt have the bottle to try drifting in third with the speeds that would be necessary. Many others did though - heroes some of them (i think they had done this before)

The main problem i had was that the front wheels would not turn enough......needed more opposite lock [;)] - well i have to blame the car dont I! [&:]

Must admit, Dave WAS trying harder, demonstrated by two things; many more spins and a dirtier car....although coming down the last straight and 'finish' line backwards was somewhat wrong and against the principle.

Some of the ruts off track were painful - i found a bad one and grounded the car (noting that your side skirts are lower than the floor pan!!!!) AND freshly painted too!!!!! Friend of mine in his Elise had a major grounding - he has not dared look underneath yet (although they are fairly flat floored he did leave two long marks engraved in the tarmac). Ouch.

Well there is no stopping the dynamic duo, and as Dave has already started a new thread, off we go again, this time to Cadwell. Had to look it up on a map just to make sure i drove across the country in right direction. Should be a good one, new circuit for me, over night stay the previous night, couple of beers and automotive equivalent of fishermans tales. Onwards and upwards.

:ROFLMAO:

That course certainly looked like fun, shame that it wasn't quite as sucessful as hoped. Hope the car cleans up ok.

It was fun Peter, once only experience for me though. I think it was quite hard on the car (also dented the middle exhaust box). You have to give the guys who were good at it (long constant drifts at higher speed in particular) alot of credit. Possibly a softer sprung/set-up car would have helped - i think my pride and joy was at too much risk though and held me back somewhat - not that i think i would have been much better in an old knacker [8|]
