Well , the brake dust has settled , or rather several showers here in the NorthWest have washed away any dust that may have settled....
So yes , I
was the only 964RS at Oulton , the venue that Derek Bell , friend of Des , has compared to the old F1 Nurburgring . Hope the lack of leichtbau is not the beginning of a trend .
There were no 993RSs (as might have been predicted) , but several GT3's of the normal and RS variety . Some had come down from Scotland as well as up from Home Counties , good to see the enthusiasm and commitment to hammering what is an expensive car by any standards .The 996GT3RS's were particularly well driven by seasoned owners , there was only one 997GT3RS in evidence and being driven a bit cautiously but not so much that I could get past it.
Met up with brksy16 , there in white 964 , turns out he actually lives in my village in NW !!!!! amazing , goes to different pub tho' so that explains why not encountered before now.
Turned out that the 'non web bookings' on the easytrack website were corporate rent-a-car drivers and also novice drivers of racing beetles , which provided a bit of Porsche related interest , at least one beetle (No 146) , a single seater , was piloted with some skill , being on track with it felt like being on the set of 'Herbie goes bananas'.
In the absence of other 964RSs driven by better drivers ,and forever giving way to the RS kettles , I had to battle with
Lotus Exige with no mirrors, Honda Accord Type R on slicks , specced-up Nissan Skylines, Evos , Imprezas etc. The best lapping was actually with a brace of Ultima 4.7 Chevys , starting in front of them but gradually losing out because of my lack of talent to exploit corners and lack of significant power combined with weight disadvantage. I had to allow first one then the other past , but did not allow them to disappear off....
School report - pupil improving , still too hard on brakes [

Hope to see rest of class in October [
