our searchengine and stiff gears...

patch

New member
Dear All,
Somewhere oh somewhere I read an article in the forums on stiff gear boxes, esp in first when cold. I have tried to use our search engine on various occasions now to no avail and it always says 'not found' - either 'not precise enough' a term or just 'not there'. Is a very stiff first and second when cold typical of an early 996? or can you lead me to the elusive thread perhaps? Grateful for your thoughts.
All the best

I find the search facility a bit of a challenge too. One thing that seems to help is to set the time filter to "within one year" or "before one year" if you are looking for more recent or old posts. I also set it to search body and titles, which seems to help. To be honest, I don't really know the correct format to search for multiple words. Maybe there are some instructions somewhere, but the ones on aspplayground.net are about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Some search engines use the format "+engine +gearbox" or "engine, gearbox" to search for a post with the words engine and gearbox in them, but neither of these seem to work on this forum. If anyone (Mark, perhaps) knows, please put me out of my misery.

Going back to the original question - Yes, it's common for the first-second change to be notchy when cold.

The search engine is often a challenge, however, if you type "stiff gear boxes" in the search term field and change the the search term found in field to Subject or Body it comes up with five hits including this thread.
