Out in the winter sun.

Haven't been on here for a while. Weather, work and home commitments have meant that I've had very little spare time recently. So, the old 944 has stayed tucked up in the garage since before Christmas.

But had a chance to dig it out this weekend, stick some super unleaded in it and go for a spin with the kids. My eldest had a Cubs gathering at Tangmere Aviation Museum, near Chichester yesterday, so after working out how to fit 3 kids, including a childs seat in the Porsche, we set off for a sunny afternoons, mum free excursion. I've only managed to clock up a staggering 70 miles in it since getting it on the road, so its still a learning experience. Have noticed that it seems a lot happier on Super Unleaded though.

Guessing its an early car from the Cookies and it should have a sticker on the inside of the fuel cap saying "98 RON" , Shell 99 is even better!
Most "Super" is only 97 and mine (an '83) is so much smoother on the top grade fuel, as you would expect as thats what is designed for!

Glad you had a good day, I had a big family weekend and only managed to go in to Leicester!

Mike

NB Did have a great run over to Rutland Water last Sunday though!

I noticed the sticker as I went to fill it up this time and thought it wise to use Super unleaded (at vast expense!) [;)]

Interestingly, our BMW 540 doesn't seem to mind whether it runs on 95 or 97 octane fuel. I guess it might be down to the more sufficicated engine management system. Handy really, it would cost a fortune to run it on super unleaded!

IIRC people who keep spreadsheets about this sort of thing reckon that the extra cost of Super Unleaded is balanced out by the better MPG they attain by using it, so it may not be as painful to the wallet as you fear.

People keep spreadsheets about their fuel consumption? []

How incredibly sad!

Oli.

P.S. Yes, the cost/mile (Column H on my spreadsheet) is lower when filled with super unleaded as the greater cost is matched by an even greater MPG. Not that I'm sad. []
