Out with the old.....

I must be going a bit soft in my old age but I thought the TT looked a bit sad when I got it (sorry guys can't call a car she!) out of the garage for the last time this morning. The man from Cargoes is coming to pick it up and take it to the OPC dealer. Basically I've done a deal on a Gen 2 for April 2010 factory collection and this seemed as good a time as any to let the old one (nearly wrote girl there!) go.

From the time I drove out of the factory gates in Stuttgart 3 years ago with the running in advice "Drive it like you stole it!" ( which I didn't) ringing in my ears it has been a brilliant car. Much more resolved than the 996TT and still in my view pound for pound the best all rounder on the planet. And even better value second hand! Someone out there is going to pick up a bargain. Just on that point, I'm not sure of the etiquette on this forum but if anyone wants any details send me an e mail. I have the cash in my pocket already so have no axe to grind either way.

New car provisional spec (may be able to tinker a bit up to December) is Meteor with Cocoa. PDK and 3 spoke steering wheel; adaptive sports seats; cruise!; heated seats!! (getting old); chrono; PCCB;PTV;wiper;telephone module; plus standard UK spec.

The unanswered question is whether there is any merit in the RS wheels. Certainly be difficult to undo the central nut with my bike spanners and not sure where the advantage lies. The disadvantage, considering it is extra over the basic wheels, is eye watering.

Anyway this is just a general update and I would be interested to hear any views on the draft spec.

Cheers

Nick

Are you going to be able to live all that time without one?!

I don't see any problem with you at least posting the name of the OPC who now has it. It probably going to be a little out of my league, though!

Actually I like the look of the new 'standard' turbo wheels - nicer than the previous ones. I don't suppose they'd let you spec a set of the Fuchs off the limited edition SC?!

With my fair weather driving of my tt I would go for the ventilated seats rather than just heated, and - is my eyesight failing me or did you not mention Sport Chrono????

Richard

Good spec - We'll chosen.

I'd probably end up going Bassalt Black or GT silver but would consider the meteor/cocoa option

Most of the items I'd have if it were my money - probably would add cruise control as I do long distance stuff and its a) a licence saver in average speed camera areas and b) makes for a more relaxed longer journey plus I've discovered c) it gets me a much higher mpg than using the right foot for long journey's. I'd probably do reerse parking sensor, other than that a couple of cosmetics accroding to final colour choice.

Wheels - yep the racy ones look nice but I might just save the difference and put it to an aerokit or similar [:D]

Your a lucky man[:D]

Congratulations Nick,

Nice spec. I agree with Tom on the cruise - for the small extra cost its a no brainer.

What's the spec of your current car?

................now can I fit it in along side my Fezza?

Thanks for the comments guys. I think the two "omissions" picked up in the mails are in fact noted somewhere in my original post. To be clear cruise and Sports chrono are both included in my spec for the very reasons suggested by Richard and Tom. The chrono does something to the engine mounts as well. Park assist is now standard UK I believe.

Clive, obviously I should have called you first!!

For anyone else that is interested the outgoing car is quite well spec'd. It is a 56 plate Oct Arctic Silver with Cocoa and had done a lowly 8513 miles when it left here this morning. Sports Chrono; 6 CD; painted side skirts; cruise; 3 spoke MF wheel, park assist. plus the standard UK stuff VTS; sun roof etc. It is currently with Stephen Jackson at Lancaster Bentley Kent 01732 453 700 but I guess may be moving into mainstream Lancaster Porsche showrooms.

And as to can I live without it? As Clive knows I was tempted by the "lite" version of the dark side rather than his full fat machine and will take the opportunity to use it a little more until the weather closes in. Then the collection is timed for the first reasonable weather in 2010, and in the interim the Yaris is an excellent little car!
