Outdoor breathable car cover

Just checking if anyone has one for a 944 that they no longer require before making a purchase :)

Dunc.

If you have to buy one, I have found that Tech Autos have good quality / good value covers; a lot of of the ones advertised in the Porsche Post are silly prices in comparison.

I have a super hi-tech woven fabric one where the fabric weave is so tight that it is completely waterproof but still allows the car to breathe, a little like Gore-tex but without a coating that will deteriorate over time. It cost a fortune

Its rubbish!

the halfords advanced medium size is cheap ,very good quality and breathable 3 layer, essentaily the same material as the expensive covers ,very good and fits the 924/944 perfectly

That description is nothing like GoreTex. GoreTex is a PTFE membrane which doesn't deteriorate, but agree a coating will with age and use. A tight weave will not be waterproof without some kind of coating.

No car cover in my mind will protect the paint from condensation/moisture due to reverse transmission. Whilst the cover is potentially waterproof and breathable when the car is warm and the outside air temperature is cooler, if the car becomes cold overnight and then the day warms up a process called reverse transmission will occur and any wetness on the outside of the cover will be drawn through the cover and end up between the cover and bodywork. This moisture if left trapped on the paint can cause all manner of paint defects, stains, moisture blistering etc.

To test this theory wear your expensive waterproof jacket in the rain and then stand in front of a roaring fire. The outside will be dried but inside will be very damp.

hi carreraRSR thats totally correct ,when I take off my cover during winter the car is damp or has a mist on the paintwork ,but saying that under the bonnet ,in the car and of course the boot is totally dry and we know how these cars leak during rain ,but to leave a car during winter uncovered and not in use , wont just mean it will be wet on the outside ,it will have water draining through the drains holes and off the windscreen into the engine bay, down the door glass through the door and down the sill ,and in my case pooling around the fusebox on my s2 ,you also get all the leaves blocking the said drain holes ,causing the water to probably enter the car more ,I recently saw a 944 that had been left to the elements for several years and it had been getting in the car and flooding the footwells it was a right mess ,the galvanised body had been totally compromised

the best thing to do of course is a nice warm garage ,(which my other car resides) but other than that to use the car ,cover it if your not using it during poor weather ,and leave the cover off on dry days ,and regulary air the car when not used ,a car cover can save a car but also I think a poor car cover used improperly can ruin a car

even in a garage unless its heating/or has a dehumidifer then there is condensation ,my old garage at my parents house was unuseable due to the condensation ,it would have rusted any car in a short period of time ,my current garage is heated as its intergral to the house and has a radiator and sealed door but ive also got a dehumidifer from when I had my boxster as it use to dry out the fabric roof in no time at all

ive just taken off my cover on the 944, its been for a few days and there was light condensation on the roof and bonnet but none down the sides and inside feels very dry ,In my view a car cover is better than being left out in the rain if the cars being left unused ,but should be taken off as much as poss during dry days
