Outdoor Car Cover

Hi.
I've recently bought a 964 Targa. I'm looking to get a garage built later in the year but until then the car will sit outside all the time. I'd like to get an outdoor cover for it, has anyone got any recommendations/experiences as to where I can get hold of a decent cover that won't cost a fortune? Are there any downsides to using a cover like this?
Thanks,
Jon

I bought a cover from Autofarm for about £90 iirc. Virtually no water gets to the car and the cover drys really quick.
I've used this on my 964 for two years now and the only issue was having to add a couple of extra straps at the front and rear to stop the wind taking it. It is supplied with a centre strap under the vehicle but this didn't hold brillianty. Always try and make sure the car is clean when you put the cover on as trapped dirt and stuff can act as an abrasive when the cover is in use.

Hi

I think you also need to avoid getting the inside of the cover dusty or dirty, as this can scratch the exterior of the car

I just placed an order for a 'Monsoon' cover from http://www.car-cover-uk.com/ for my C4 coupe. It is totally waterproof and has a soft inner lining to protect your paintwork. It also comes with straps to hold it in place during bad weather. Cost was £125 inc vat & p&p. Someone else recommended them after owning the same cover for 2 years on pistonheads.

It is totally waterproof

Sorry, but that's not a good idea.

You can only put it on a dry car, otherwise you might get condensation / mould growth after a while. Moisture will get underneath anyway, from the ground.

Breathable is much better.

Andy, it does have breather vents in the roof lining to allow some air flow, but it does say if being left on long term, then lift off once a week to allow any condensation/moisture to dry out.

What has cheesed me off a bit is it says only put on a dry car....how's that going to work in winter in the UK?

My point exactly!

The best Covercraft Noah, or Weathershield are VERY good & available from the States for little more than you paid.

I have one from Hamilton Classics which is waterproof but breathable and has a soft inner lining. Two straps so it stays on ok and you can put in on a wet car if you want.
