Oval dash heater controls

How do i close the heater vents and get cool air into the cabin,the interior is getting quite warm and i cant seem to cool it down,does the oval dash model have air con,if it does where can i get it regassed as it doesnt seem to blow cool air?

It only has air-con if there is a snowflake symbol on the button at the right hand end. If that button is the windscreen defrost one then no air-con.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]To get cool air into the cabin you want to move the top slider to the right to direc air to the top of the ventialtion system (the lower slider controls footwell air), move the vertical central vent slider to the bottom and move the sliders under the side vents to the end with the O rather than the solid white blob.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]Temperature is controlled with the right hand knob and assuming your car has numbers they correspond roughly to degrees celsius.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]If that doesn't work you have one of the multitude of heater control faults these cars can suffer from.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

I have digital heating. It's either on or off. It can be a bit of a pain on a long journey on a cold morning.

I'm looking forward to the Summer, when I can leave it in the off position [:)]

Sounds like your little white plastic clip is broken.

At the left of the heater unit is an actuator arm which moves the mixing vanes. The arm is connected by a little white plastic clip, which breaks. You might be able to feel it, or see it, up between the heater and glove box; or take out your glove box liner.
 
It has the snowflake symbol on,so my next question is where can i get the air con regassed i am in Northampton.

Paul (Diver) has a good contact for Northampton. Air-con One I think? He'll no doubt confirm.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]It should still work as described though even without the air-con, so it may not be the air-con system at fault. If you start the car and open the bonnet can you hear a click and the revs change momentarily when you turn the a/c on? If not it isn't working for some reason.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Me too, ramps up and down either side of what you want, ho hum.

BUT, my a/c compressor is u/s. I was going to change it but I have found that the cool air really is cool for some reason in comparison to most unconditioned cars and I`m not going to bother.
 
A mate discovered recently that the little fan that sucks cabin air in to measure the temperature was totally bunged up with fluff. Cleaning it out made a huge difference to the temperature stability of his car. It's an easy fix with the glove box liner removed.

Why is it that every job om these cars seems to require the removal of the glovebox liner?

It's a bit like the old Haynes Manual line; "Before starting the job, disconnect the battery and chock the road wheels."

I would check the white plastic clip is not broken.

Remove glove box and see if it looks like this broken one.

Rod (A) should be held by clip (B)

That is indeed the one - Just to confirm, the picture shows a broken clip, not what it should look like. [;)]

Ah, but that wouldn't fit within the Porsche maintenance ethos. Most jobs that need doing don't actually take very long to do, it just takes ages to remove all the bits you need to to get access to the bit you want to address. - Guess who's been playing under his inlet manifold, and has his intercooler sitting on the floor [;)]

Good shout, it draws air across a thyristor which can trigger at the wrong temperature or be too reactive.

Ah, but that wouldn't fit within the Porsche maintenance ethos. Well, I was just going to replace the split water pipe at the back, but it turned into a "While I'm here" job.

The hard control pipe has gone, the froth tower modified to fit the oil catch tank (only been in the shed 18 months), new vacuum pipe and venturi delete kit fitted to delete the venturi that I didn't have in the first place (it was so mucky under there that I couldn't see that I didn't have one) cycling valve bracket cut off and a damn good clean out.

The intercooler came out as it was decided it would be worth flushing it through as I could get to it because the badge panel and headlamp covers had been taken off for refurbishing as I didn't need them as the car wasn't running any way.

I'm sure it will be great when I get it all back together again.........if it works.

Yep

http://www.airconone.co.uk/ He knows the 944 system and will flush, vacuum and refill for circa £70 with either the older or newer refrigerant depending on what your car needs? Only problem is he will not come further north than Beds or Bucks (so I go down to a 944 mates in Milton Keynes - hi Phil)

It does sound like you do have a heater flap problem though
