Over-Boost Protection

A ponderance here for your reflection:-

This is really for thems of us as whats removed our cycling valves, or are running modified chips with overboost protection removed.

On smurfing the Demon Tweeks site I came apon an adjustable overboost fuel cut off switch. IIRC it was IRO £100. This bit of kit was a bolt on to an electronic boost control system but it occurs to me that, linked to a relay, it could be used on its own to cut the fuel pump feed on a 951. Your thoughts.

Allows boost pressure to be increased over factory fuel cut/shutdown levels on modern computer controlled engines. Available in 2 versions - pneumatic or electronic. Your GURU Map chip will have the same feature.

Except I'm not running the Guru chip at the moment, I'm still running the Wayne chip until I can get onto a Dyno to set up the Guru chip. After the original chip I'm unable to assume the new chip will be a plug and play solution.

The potential lack of overheat protection on my current set up is another reason why I want to fit the Guru chip.

I take your point on not having the fuel to cool what could be a hot head though.
 
your engine will immediately run lean for a while before it stops.

I'm assuming the fuel would only be cut while at overboost so would refuel again once the engine speed/boost drops. Again, I'm assuming this would be a very brief moment, prior to regaining equilibrium - not unlike a rev limiter.

I take your point onnot having fuel to cool the head and perhaps it would be better to interupt the ignition not the fuel pump?

That's what I like, a KISS solution - (Keep It Simple, Stupid) [:D] Now why hasn't anyone else thought of that? On the other hand, the intervention of an electric brain will bring things under control almost instantly, where as the delay in hearing the buzzer, working out what it's for and then lifting off could be long enough to do the damage.
 
I think that's hit the nail on the head. Overboost triggers buzzer, driver hears buzzer, driver's brain processes cause, driver lifts of at the same instant the pistons exit through the bonnet...
