over heating

If anyone can help with this problem it would be greatly appreciated. If the car is driven for any reasonable distance the oil temperature moves out of its normal operating range. hence when idling the oil pressure lamp comes on. I have linked out both the slow speed and full speed contacts on the oil cooler blower to prove it works and it seems ok. I have allso replaced the oil temp. sensor on the oil cooler, still no joy. The oil is definately reaching the cooler ok because both flow and return pipes are hot. There is 5 volts down to the sensor and when it is unplugged with the ignition on the fan runs at full speed, I'm guessing thats a fail safe. Am I just missing something really obvious or is something else. cheers Paul

Probably a silly question but have you checked your fanbelt.

There should be two belts (excluding ac system).

Sounds more an instrument failure then physical - if the oil is getting to the cooler and the oil pressure is as it should be (2-6 bar) and the engine fan is on - then the fact you have hot oil going to the cooler and back should keep things ok esp as it is winter. you don't say if you think the engine is really overheating - eg if you have the heater on then on hot it would be unbearable if the engine was really overheating. The fan coming on when you switch off woudl indicate some overheat - how long does it stay on for? More then 15 mins then that woudl not be good. I suppose the oil level is ok? Maybe one to get checked by a dealer/specialist.
