over heating

If anyone can help with this problem it would be greatly appreciated. If the car is driven for any reasonable distance the oil temperature moves out of its normal operating range. hence when idling the oil pressure lamp comes on. I have linked out both the slow speed and full speed contacts on the oil cooler blower to prove it works and it seems ok. I have allso replaced the oil temp. sensor on the oil cooler, still no joy. The oil is definately reaching the cooler ok because both flow and return pipes are hot. There is 5 volts down to the sensor and when it is unplugged with the ignition on the fan runs at full speed, I'm guessing thats a fail safe. Am I just missing something really obvious or is something else. cheers Paul

Are you getting air flow through the oil rad when you test it or is the intake clogged with leaves. Just a thought.

Thanks for the link Maurice. It was very helpful. The page does suggest that the oil temp guage should be pointing to exactly the mid way point on the guage,. Which is what my car is doing after a bit of hard driving. I was led to believe that normal op temp was at the mark just below the centre point. Which is right? Furthermore the oil pressure light only appears at idle when the tiptronic is in drive, which drops the idle speed down about 100 revs to 750 rpm and goes out when the stick is pushed into nuetral. The pressure is just below 1 bar at idle and at 5 by 3000. Thinking back, the oil was changed a few miles back and since then it has been leaking spots all over the engine. I'm wondering if the new oil is getting to thin at higher but normal temps causing the leaks and lowering the pressure. The oil was halfords brand (comma oil) fully synthetic 5w-40. What do you think, possible? I'll also speak to the club office about the member and login id link up, monday. Hadn't actually noticed I was logged in as a non member. Thanks Paul

And it wasn't leaking before the oil change? There's something really wrong with that halford oil[:-]. I'd get it changed before driving again. There's a lot of posts on here recommending oils.
