Overheating problems at idle

Greetings ladies and gents
I seem to be having quite a few problems with my 924S
While the autoelectrician was checking out the car (eventually found a faulty fusebox), he kept the engine idling to keep the battery from draining.
After 15 minutes the coolant boiled over as the car seemed to be overheating.

Could the faulty fuse box be responsible for thermostat/cooling fan problems? Still waiting for parts from Porsche
Is it the gasket which has blown?
Any ideas gratefully received.
Many thanks
Shad

Does the radiator get warm? If so the Thermostat is working, so, does the fan come on?
What does the temp gauge show?
Check the coolant cap' if its old it can allow the coolant out of the overflow.
It can be difficult to bleed the cooling system, valve is on the top of the elbow at the front of the engine.
Is there any oil in the water or vice versa?
Head gasket can be checked by checking for combustion gases in coolant - most garages will have kit.
Just for starters!

Sounds to me that the fan thermostat isn't working-2weeks ago I changed the temperature gauge sender on the 924S & had to top up the coolant I lost-I followed the normal procedure leaving the engine idling until the air /water started bubbling out of the bleed bolt on the elbow as described above-I left it idling to make certain the new sender was working & very quickly as the gauge needle reached the the top centre position, the fan cut in & quickly dropped the temperature to 1/4 way.

As for the sensor,I have an idea it actually was the Lucar connector that had verdigris over it & it came off the wire end so I fitted a new one-but left the new sensor in just for the hell of it.

The fan thermostat screws into the radiator side tank.
