Overheating s2

Hi,
Recently purchased a 1990 S2, been running the car for a couple of weeks with no problems. Decided to clean the engine bay using gunk and a hose. After cleaning, the car is hunting constantly, and will not idle, also the temperature gauge is showing the car to be overheating, although the water temp in the header tank is not actually that hot. Also the two cooling fans are not working, checked all the relays and fuses to be in good condition.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Charlie

Sounds like some moisture has got into the electrics. I guess it'll dry out and everything return to normal. Given the age of these cars the rubber and plastic insulation within sensors and around plugs and junctions is starting to age.

Your idling issue might be due to you knocking a vacuum hose off somewhere in or around the engine.

I'd also say that it's damp electricals, but I think your idling issues would be damp electricals at your idle control valve, situated under the inlet manifold.

If you can put your vacuum on blow and give it a good blast.
