Overheating

The water pump was changed by the previous owener so I didn't think it would be that but I suppose you never know. Thanks

Draining the cooling system without setting the heater control to max temp will prevent the coolant in the heater to drain effectively and would possibly cause an airlock on refill. and the 944 is prone to airlocks unless the coolant change is done carefully. jr

My S2 recently overheated. There do not appear to be any obvious leaks in the system. The automatic fan is not cutting in once the engine gets up to temperature and the heaters are blowing cold even when on maximum heat setting.

I have recently had work done on the car which required the coolant system to be drained and refilled. I picked the car up on Friday and drove it that evening and over the weekend. On Sunday evening it was getting a bit cold so I switched the heating on for the first time since collecting the car. About 10 minutes after that the temperature went into the red.

I drove the car to a garage in the next village earlier today so they could check it over. The journey is two miles at most. The engine was cold but had gone into the red just as I arrived at the garage.

The system seems blocked. Could this be an airlock in the system?

Ah right, im having a similar problem with my 2.5 lux. Since replacing the radiator a couple of weeks ago the heaters have remained cold when set to full heat and up to the windscreen only (engine up to temp). The Fans do kick in however but seem to come in a bit lower than usual? About halfway on the temp gauge. Possibly a air lock then however i have tried to release air from the system via the bleed screw near the top hose. There is no smoke from the exhaust and the engine sounds fine. Any ideas to release the air from the system or keep trying the bleed screw method?

They can sometimes be a right PITA if they haven't been bled properly fist time round with the heater on full. As Paul said, get the front of the car several inches in the air and keep repeatedly bleeding it until it's fine.
