i have a 1986 944s i went to replace my oxgen sensor only to find that there is NOT one fitted
i thought these cars were fitted with DME system and has adaptive oxgen sensor control (idle speed and mixture are electronically controlled)

the exhaust has the hole for fitting one capped off with a bolt BUT there is no sign of where to fit the other end of the sensor

so one end goes into the exhaust but where does the other end go

or is it a case of i dont need one:confused:
or is it more like who ever fitted the exhaust never fitted the oxgen sensor:confused: (i only got the car 8 weeks ago so dont know who fitted the exhaust)
or is it that my car does not have a cat converter fitted:confused:

HELP alan

hi

ok so no catalytic converter fitted on this car but how does the DME system adaptive oxgen sensor control (idle speed and mixture are electronically controlled) work if there is no sensor in the exhaust???

Early DME uses mapped settings derived from TPS / RPM / TEMP.

Later DME use input from the lambda sensor to run in closed loop mode, except at WOT, where it reverts to the mapped settings.

On the turbo, the KLE uses manifold pressure sensor (MAP) to modify timing retard under boost and/or knock sensing. Also boost control and timing retard as overboost protection.

(edited fo spilling !)

Simple:- It doesn't - Rick has it spot on.

If you look here:- http://frwilk.com/944dme/ you will find out a whole lot more about the system
