Car is a 1987 3.2, UK spec. Should these cars have an oxygen sensor fitted? I've read elsewhere on these boards that non cat fitted cars did not have oxygen sensors. But is this right? Surely the DME system needs to know the oxygen levels to control the mixture correctly, irrespective of the presence of a cat? (Although, I appreciate that oxy sensors are especially critical for cat operation).
Reason I'm asking is that I'm still trying to get to the bottom of my rich running at low engine speeds problem. The temp sensors (head and intake) check out OK, so now I'm questioning my non-existent oxygen sensor. The connector in the engine compartment has a little dummy plug which incorporates a bridge wire from (I guess) the signal wire to the ground (I need to verify this). Would this be a standard fit for UK cars? In what way is this intended to fool the DME brain, I wonder?
