PA1000 Alarm - Emergency entry!!!!

Both of my PA1000 alarm handsets have now stopped working, and I'm unable to get into my car (a bit unfortunate as I need to drive to Gatwick airport early this Saturday to go to Gibraltar!).

In my handbook it says that there is an 'emergency procedure' for getting into the car, and presumably switching off the alarm and immobiliser.

Can anyone help me out with this????

Apparently only a Porsche dealer can explain the procedure, but as my car is a 17 year old 964, I hoped to find something on the net about this but haven't.
 
I think you should try the local OPC as your 1st port of call. A good specialist should be able to help you out too. I may have a similair problem some day as I only have one plipper. Currently looking into a replacement/upgrade as new remotes are not available.
 
OPC == Official Porsche Centre. (In other words, a franchised Porsche dealer who sells brand new official cars - not imports).

Although they now prefer to be known as just "Porsche Centres" so I understand...

Well Colin, I'm on the way to getting it sorted, and as a reward for your advice to me here is how I did it:

Porsche Dealer gave me Hamilton-Palmer's number (see hamilton-palmer.co.uk) who still manufacture the PA1000 alarm system, and they're sending a bloke tomorrow morning to fit a new control board in the car, provide me with two new handsets, and a new red key (which I wasn't aware of until the OPD told me that's what I needed to programme a new handset.... I didn't get one with the car), all for £282 inc vat.

Sounds a bit pricey at first, but at least it's all brand new now, and to be fair to the car I think 17years is quite good going for any electronic device that's been chucked about all its life.

I'm happy, and I can now catch that flight on Saturday.
 
I'd say that £282 to send somebody out to you and make everything so is pretty good value. Good luck!
 
From memory the emergency procedure went like this on the PA1000

1/ Get the 4 digit code for your setup (supplied with the red box).
2/ Enter the car by unlocking the door with key.
3/ Put key in ignition.
4/ Turn the ignition on and off the number of times of the first digit (0 counts as ten on/off) each on/off has to be within a certain time.
5/ Wait a specified time after first digit.
6/ Repeat 4, 5 and 6 for each of the remaining 3 digits.
7/ Alarm and imobiliser disabled car will now start.
8/ If any of the above not done correctly remove ignition key, re-insert after certain period and start again.

No longer own car and never had to try it for real but remember thinking how difficult that would be to do.

I have heard about the upgrade for the PA1000 too & will probably go for it, I have a friend & PCGB member who runs an ICE/alarm company who will sort it out a bit cheaper than the OPC but for the same upgrade. The update is not Thatcham 1, but insurance companys don't seem to worry about that. By the way, does the alarm still give total closure?
