PA1000 Alarm Remote

I am currently trying to replace one of my Black 2 button alarm remotes, which has ceased to function, despite a battery change. I have looked on a few previous threads which seem to have conflicting views about Red master remotes and ignition keys.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions? I spoke to Hamilton and Palmer and they suggested that I would need to send them the mother board and alarm remotes?

Thanks Nigel

If you have the red master box then it's easy. You can buy a new remote, use the red master box to put the alarm into program mode and register the new remote with your car. Simple.

If you don't things are not easy. I have heard that you can sometimes get new remotes programmed by OPCs or independents but don't know how true this is.

Ian.

Ian is correct if your Red (master) remote is in working order then you can go to OPC Parts and buy a new black remote to program. I did this with OPC Colchester and they gave me a little photo-copied sheet of instructions. They were going to do it for me but I was in a rush... it was very easy anyway... just follow to the word.

If you bought the car second hand it may be easier to first see if the previous owners has the red. One should have the red because this is the master and if the blacks get lost or broken then this is needed and your car would be immobilised.

Appreciate you have gone direct to H&P but maybe worth asking OPC what they can do ....

Hamilton & Palmer will sell you a red key, black key and new board, it's about £100. Fit the new board and you can tune the old black key into the new board.

I have just checked my keys and have two fobs with black buttons. What does the master look like - is the case red or just the buttons? As I do not appear to have one I should perhaps think about getting one - where is the mother board located and is it easy to fit?

The master fob has a Red Case...... so if you only have blacks then yes it would be a wise move to get a Red Master etc....

Can't help you on the motherboard subject.

Hi, join the club! There are probably quite a few of us without the Red Master Remotes. I am just writing to the two previous owners to try and trace mine. The motherboard is under the right hand front seat. I dont know how easy it would be to replace, I haven't got that far yet, but I will let you know as that looks like my next course of action as I have only one working remote and don't want the hassle of that one malfunctioning.

I can imagine after a few Owners the red fob probably does get left in a safe place somewhere along the line. The previous Owner of my car was very keen to point out how important it was to keep it safe and how good he was passing it on to me... which he was.

Maurice maybe a little mention on the subject in PP ???

I sent my defunct black remote down to Hamilton and Palmer and after a little soldering and £10 + vat, I am awaiting its return. Hopefully this will give me 2 functioning remotes.

I spoke to Edward at H & P who said that the best solution would be to have my motherboard cleared and reprogrammed and then to buy a new Red Master which could be used to reprogramme the existing black remotes. Total cost would be around £20 + £21.50 (+ vat) for the operation.

Edward was unable to go into too much detail as to how to remove the motherboard, disable the alarm and get the car operational for obvious reasons.

I contacted my local Independent, Strasse at Leeds and they reckoned they could remove and replace the motherboard at about 2 hours labour (£90 + vat).

So, I will wait to test the reconditioned remote on its return and plan my next move from there. Thanks for all the helpful replies.

Thanks to Nigel and all your comments I have managed to track down my red key fob - up until this thread commenced I did not know that I needed one or indeed that one existed. I am the 4th owner and contacted the previous three which resulted in a phone call this morning from the first owner, a very nice chap who gave me helpful details of his ownership, to say that he had found it and would send it on - What a result!! Thanks y'all

Ps Does anybody have experience of their alarm going off for no apparent reason - mine seems ok most of the time but on some days it will then go off inexplicably several times on the trot. I have found that I can overcome the problem by deactivating the ultrasonic sensors but I don't know whether to put it down to a sensitive alarm which sometimes reacts to heat ot vibration or if there are problems with it. Any thoughts appreciated.

I am allso have the same problem with my PA1000 Alarm going of after arming about 60 seconds some told me that i will need to check all switches that secure the car e.g Doors, Boot & Engin bay for bad conections. But is funny i have the same codition above some times OK but most of the time a pain in the Ar** as above any help on this irratating problem will help.

I am not very technically minded but it seems to me that the ultrasonic sensors are the most likely cause. Did you know that you can run an alarm check to see what has set the alarm off - details are in your PA1000 user guide. If it is the ultrasonic sensors you can deactivate them - again see the user guide. I know this does not solve the cause of the problem but it will make it easier to live with until someone much wiser than me is able to offer advice.
