PA1000 alarm system for my 993 Targa

My 1997 Porsche Carerra 993 Targa has a PA1000 alarm system fitted, which has not caused me any problems since I purchased the car 18 months ago. However upon returning to my car lets say the following morning, I seem now to have problems with the alarm!
I de- activate the alarm and as usual potter about putting items in the car and preparing to drive off. During this short time the alarm bleeps as normal. When I am ready to drive off I have to de-activate the alarm again and then start the car engine. This is where the problem arises! Nornally when de-activated the indicators flash once. To activate the alarm the indicators flash four times. For some reason the alarm does not like me doing this and the alarm sounds. I again de-activate the alarm and now seem to go through a rigmarole of locking the car and unlocking it with the alarm remote control before starting the car up? Sometimes prior to this process the indicators flash three times?
Am I confusing this old system?
Is the system on the point of crashing?
Can anyone offer guidance please.

Many thanks

Robin and Margaret Hainsworth

Mine does not beep during this time???
If I deactivate, jump in and start car it just works
If I deactivate, potter about, get in and try start I then have to deactivate again, but at no time to I get any beeping.

If I lock car with remote and then realise I've forgotten to pick something up from car and de-activate before the alarm has settled down I do seem to confuse it. But I just have to wait 20 seconds or so and start again and it's then OK.

As your's seems to have changed behaviour, maybe someting has gone wrong with one of the sensors.

But I think the recommendation must be to give Hamilton and Palmer a call (their number is in the 993 FAQ section of this forum) - they are very helpful to us users of their old products.

ditto all that , plus I know it sounds daft, but get your battery checked out as I have had problems with alarms/immobilizers when battery is not in tip top condition , don't ask me why!!

Not sure but I seem to recall there is an option to have the 'beep' set so it can be heard or set to silent.

I've just been reminded that there is supposed to be a beep during the process of programming new remotes (using the red remote) - but I don't get that beep with my car - so perhaps that is also reason I don't hear a beeping during the unlock process.

Can't say I really want a beep!

Extract taken from the P1000 operating instructions, explaining when appears to be happening.. if you arm and disarm too soon..

"To turn off the ultrasonics when the alarm system is on, activate the alarm in the normal manner, within 3 seconds of the LAST arming inidcator flash press the indented remote handset button once. The indicators will flash 3 times confirming the de-activation of the ultrasonics. The ultrasonics will be re-instated automatically when the alarm system is next activated"

Or Passive Arming

"The immobiliser circuits of the system will automatically arm 30 secs after the ignition has been turned off.. During the last 5 seconds of the 30 sec arming period, the internal buzzer will beep 5 times........ To deavtivate press the indented button on teh remote.... The inidcators will flash once... The immobiliser circuits are now disarmed.. Turn on teh ignitions and start the vehicle..

If you would like copy of the manual, email me, and I'll see if I can scan it tp PDF for you.
