PA2000 Alarm Problems !

I have a 993 Carrera 96 model with a PA2000 fitted.

I've had intermittent problems for a while with random alarms (and much embarrassment) while unlocking. It's mainly the horn that sounds but occasionally also the siren.

Recently the system has been making 2 beeps while locking the car with the remote with the alrm going off while unlocking.

It's now decided to lock up totally with no response to the remote. I can get into the car manually with the key held in the open position but the horn alarm goes off for some time. I can even start the car after a while but the hazards keep flashing for some time and the alarm goes off if any door is opened.

Has anyone had similar problems and know of a cure - reset or similar ? Or is it terminal - with a wallet opening on the horizon ?

Help !!!!! []

Hi Maurice

Thanks for the info.

I've spoken to H&P. Very helpful as you say. Now just have to figure out how to get the car to them or a specialist to do the job properly !

Hi Ravi,
I have a 1996 993 C2 and have had problems with my PA2000 system. This was upgraded from PA1000 by the OPC in Reading in 2000. Unfortunately my problem resulted in me being stranded at traffic lights turning right on a major road. At the time I did not know what the problem was and thought it could be the DME relay. I changed that but there was no change. Eventually it was resolved by PCT in Coventry who said one of the circuits in the PA2000 system had failed. They wired around it and everything is fine now.
I understand that PA2000 is fairly old now and I may have to replace it with something more modern. Your insurance company may need to know if you change it

Ravi. My alarm system was causing a small current drain on the battery and giving infrequent setting problems. I can heartily recommend H & P. I took the car down to them. As they designed and manufactured the system they have the engineers and parts all in stock. They completely checked the system over replaced any suspect parts, all whilst I waited and at fraction of the anticipated Porsche price. I rang their technical guy, Steve, before I went and the problems were mainly identified and some rectified by me before I went. Incidentally if anyone read my topic on battery drain. It is now at 0.020 amps with the alarm on. It was at 0.140, so the car should now be able to stand for a couple of weeks without the usual starting problems.

Hi all

Thanks for all the advice. Really wanted to take the car to H&P and get them to sort it out.

But due to to distance and lack of time, took the easy but costly [] way out and got Portiacraft (who sold me the car) to fit a new one - Autowatch Cat 1 system. Don't know if it's any good but seems to do the job ! [:)]
