PADM

Whilst enjoying only my third drive in my GTS yesterday, up came a PADM warning message. Car duly recovered to my local OPC and thankfully I have 3 years extended warranty so it sounds like that is going to be saving me from this frustrating experience becoming an expensive one.

I checked on a couple of other forums last night and it seems this is quite a common fault, which seems to be the GTS's Achilles heel similar to the rear main seal on my old 996. I wonder is it?

Andrew,

It sounds as though your car has developed a fault in the active engine mount system (component or control unit). Unfortunately not an unknown problem, as you say, and one of the downsides of the electronic complexity associated with modern vehicles.

Hope you get it fixed quickly.

Jeff

How old is your car, and what's the mileage? As I'm not planning on extending my warranty after 3 years (due to having Zunsport grilles fitted) I'm wondering if I'm lining myself up for a big bill!

Cheers. Still don't think I'll bother extending unless I can speak to Porsche GB and have them confirm that my grilles are OK.

I‘m in the same position. My 9k mile Cayman GTS warranty expires on the 31st of December. I was considering extending but from what I’m told the Zunsport grills could be an issue.

Is this an OPC discretion problem ? I use Colchester for the service but the car was purchased else where. I’ve had no issues with them. They always appear to be very friendly and professional and I’ve no reason to complain about the techs work but I’ve no idea what there like with things like the 111 point checK or if they would charge for it. As I understand the fee can be waivered by them if they feel inclined.

Any advise greatly appreciated.

Dean.

Zunsport grilles are a discretionary topic for OPC's. I had them fitted to my 987 CS 2.7. The OPC I bought the car from had no problem with authorising a 12 month extended warranty.

Some OPC's may quibble. My advice is, speak to the dedicated OPC techie who looks after your car and make the point about protecting the condensers.

Funny how quickly threads go off topic........[;)]

( I thought Zunsport grilles were easily and temporarily removable if need be? I saw a 991 Turbo S for sale in a PC last week with said grilles fitted..[:)])

They're not easily removed as the clips bite into the plastic the fix to.

By the strict rules of the Porsche extended warranty they're not allowed. Some OPCs may turn a blind eye to them, others not.

It depends on the model which are easy to strip off or fit 987's are easy and I've removed mine when unsure prior to calling in before now but most people and OPC's say that a bunch of leaves in the condensers and radiators will cause far more cooling restriction and damage than the grilles will, they also protect the condensers against stone damage.

981 and GTS are more complex to fit but there we have the argument that the GT4 has them fitted from the factory and the GT4 is a version of the 981.
