You should have a paper sticker under the carpet in the boot and also on the first page of your service book. It will be a four digit code beginning with L An 85 or 85 car in white should be L90E - Alpine White There's a list here - http://porsche.elevate.nl/technical/ColorCodes.html

just an aside that list like most others is wrong abut LY7U, its stone grey (steingrau) not slate grey (scheifer). slate grey is more greenish. it confused me for a while that the touchup kit i got with the car bore no relation to the actual colour. [] slate grey is L22D btw

The trouble with paint names is that different regions of the world call the same paint by a different name, so the various online lists may not match the UK name. Different manufacturers also call the same paint by different names - Porsche, VW, Audi, Bently etc all use the same paint but call it different names. As long as you get paint that is the same code you will have a better chance of a good match (but then some paints have dozens of different variant shades [&o] but that's another story )

and after 1983 Guards Red (LM3A) was discontinued, and the new Red offering was India Red (LM3A) Progress in the Marketing dept. [8|]

Guards Red and Indian Red are one and the same colour. Guards Red is an English language market colour and its always been called Indischrot in German. HTH Simon

Okay.......so I go to my local Halfords, to have a couple of spray cans mixed up for various little jobs.... Code number LM1V as per paint codes from this Forum and also from the Glasurite website.... And nothing listed!! I believe the colour is actually known as Light Bronze Metallic. Any ideas Bluesman 1984 944 (piccy to follow!!)

halfords dont do porsche paint codes, I got a spraycan from auto paint st.helens that was a great match. (http://auto-paint.co.uk/carpaint/) Bear in mind that some colours fade with age depending on the pigments used so fresh paint may no longer be an exact match anyway.
