Paint Correction

Hi guys,

I am looking for any recommendations for paint correction. I have a number of chips and small scratches I would love removed.
Is there anyone you could recommend in the North Yorkshire area, or even further afield?
One last question, forgive me for my naivety as I have never had this done before, but is paint correction a decent (invisible) job, or should I just wait and go for a full respray?

Hoping to get some good advice, please.

Thanks in hopeful anticipation,

Verner

Basically you talking about chips away or equivalent. They can match your paint and touch in and lacquer any chips, they can do small paint jobs/blow ins and any scratches that you can't put your finger nail in can be polished out, so give them a shout and they will come out and quote.

Wouldn’t have thought you need a respray Vernel unless there is much wrong with the paintwork.

A decent detailer will measure paint thickness with an expensive gauge and then remove the top surface using abrasive compounds to polish the surface then wax. Other than looking superb you wouldn’t know it’s been done. The downside is a minute amount of paint is removed so it can’t be repeated time and time again.

I'd find a good detailer and get their opinion first. Last resort would be a respray and if you do make sure all trim is removed (often called 'glass out' for obvious reasons) and not masked around. I’ve seen a 911 where glass was masked off and the paint finish is truly awful.

Should add: paint correction is for the whole car. If there are small areas needing paint then yes Chips Away. If bumper say maybe bonnet then a professional paint shop. Respray for me implied full car.

Many garages including OPCs will paint bumpers and bonnets to retail second hand cars

Verner,

As said, a SMART repair can address small localised problems with the paint. Paintless Dent Repair is also an option if there’s no damage to the paint. The technician teases-out the dent using a range of devices.

Great advice, thank you.
It's just little scratches/chips, it's all very good but the small imperfections annoy me, and every time I look closely at her I always find new ones!
Which does my OCD (and wallet) no good whatseover! :-D

Just a thought Verner but you could try using a Chipex touch-up repair kit to address the scratches and chips. It won’t be as good as a proper repair but from a metre or so it should hide the obvious blemishes.

Anecdotally, it worked well on my ancient red Golf GTi, less so on my silver Cayman.

Chipex type kits may work but you need to be patient and know what you're doing.
I'm not, and I don't!

Have used Chips Away on my flat-white Boxster, brilliant and still so after 3 years. Took my special colour Skoda Superb to the same place, metallic and clear for two horrid gouges on the rear door a Nice Person left for me.
Fantastic BUT for that they painted the whole door and blended to the front one too, still superb, invisible and that was 2 years ago.

With these companies, you are in the hands of the painter, he may be good or very good, think I was lucky.

Dropped my car to my detailer on Sunday morning. Full paint correction process, paint thickness was checked two weeks ago and is great on all panels, all original too. The car will have any minor blemishes touched in, swirling and marks removed and then the ceramic coating will be applied to every part of the car, paintwork, calipers, wheels etc. Process takes around a week or so to complete. The interior also gets some attention and two wheels are being refurbished at the same time.

It is well worth seeing what your local professionals can do before resorting to the spray booth.

If you want a perfect job. Check out Chris Gregory in Knaresbourgh. Check out the website, every high end car you can think of they have done it. would highly recommend. Glenn

Try Glyn O’Donnell at elitedetailer.co.uk
Based in Stamford Bridge. I’m more than happy with the work he’s done on mine.

A photo sent through from my detailer yesterday, day 3, of works to the Boxster S. Should be finished by the weekend. The little tiny Bronze bottles in the background are the Ceramic Coat that is being applied to the car. £150.00 per 35ml !!
