Paint job

The paintwork on my 64RS is beginning to look a bit tatty![:(] I've always been more interested in how good she is too drive rather than how shiny the paintwork is, but especially at the front, the stone chips do detract from what a fine looking vehicle she is. I've recently had a quote from Langley Autocraft, just down the road from JZM for a front end respray (bonnet to be stripped back to bare metal) including bumper, wings and scuttle and also one of the rear quarters for £1,675 ex VAT.

Has anyone else used these guys or know any other work they've done? Is it a reasonable price? Can anyone recommend anywhere else? I live NW of London, just outside M25.

Also once it's done, what's the best way to keep the paintwork looking good? I've seen some good examples of Armourfended cars. Any views? JZM are advertising VentureShield, a Urethane film that also wraps your exposed edges. Anyone tried it or know anything about it?

Tim,

If it is original paint I would do chipsaway and then a Zymol professional treatment. Keeps the car original.

Once you go down the repray route you are best to go bare metal and windows out.

I think originality is important even if it shows some chips from use. IMHO

Give Karl or Alan a call at Specialised Paint in Reading -they resprayed my Cup Car. 01189 306206.

Mention my name!![;)]

I used langley a while back to take a dent out of my black 964rs bonnet which was caused by a 4x4 . I insisted i didnt want any filler on the car so they took it to a specialist panel beater who works on e-types. They did a great job and charged me £40 for the panel beating and £300 for painting. I think JZ take all their cars there.

Hi Tim

Hope you are well. I think that price is quite fair for the work. I would give Chris at 911 Bodyshop a call - not the cheapest but the best work I have seen.

I had the front end of my car painted at Specialised Paint and then armourfended. The armour fend is ok but it shows up a lot of a black car and I wouldn't do it again. I think regular cleaning and waxing is the best bet.

It depends what kind of job you want. If it's the best then I think there are only a few people to go to (depends where you are and how far you want to travel). Remember the best jobs will costs more but equally are worth the extra over the long run. I do have some names if you are interested.

Best regards.

+1

Chris did a full respray on my car, in record time as I was moving abroad and the job was first rate. He is in Wembley, in the shaddow of the stadium.

Hi Lee

Been keeping busy with new job and some track days. I've done about 15 days on the bike this year which was huge fun but big learning curve. Sharing the BM with a friend to get to know the 'Ring better and have made several trips. Possibly ready for something quicker as we are now more familiar.

All else is well, hope you guys are having fun.

Regards

Thanks for all the advice so far. Just got back from JZM as I've also been having a sticking clutch problem. Had the master cylinder replaced a couple of weeks back, but this hasn't sorted the problem, so it looks like a new clutch and slave cylinder![] Bang goes the budget for a paint job.[:(] Perhaps I should just go for a Professional Zymol treatment?

I've got my SC down at Jaz, so I'll drop in and speak to Chris at 911 Bodyshop.

Yoda, good to hear from you and pleased to hear you've had a few trips out to the Ring. Have managed a couple out there this year and going out again with RMA next month. The 64RS is awesome round there. Did you catch the video I put on youtube?

I have used Cris at wembley - top job.

I would avoid chips away. They did a cr*p job - poor blending of chips and dull spraying - I could have done better with a paint brush!
