Paint number question

I was looking at the serial numbers etc on my car and the paint code is 6604 - light ivory for 66/67 cars. registration document says it was registered dec 20th 1965 do these codes match with that date? I thought it would have been 6404?

My books show 6604 as Light Ivory for 66/67 model years. The model year runs from August to July, so the code seems correct for your car

Odd question Murray... but did you buy your car fairly recently? Maybe from a Scottish guy? I used to see one very similar to yours around my neck of the woods and wondered what happened to it.

The car came from Alex at Retromotor company. I looked at it when it was for sale in Sandy, Cambs, earlier this year.

Yep it's a small world with 912's......hey Nick how's you orange one. Hmmm kinda seen that one about too up North in a Certain Porsche Garage ...te he

DON'T BRAKE IT !!!!!!!!!!!! it's nice as it is...

Mark, you are right, it was at Autoclassica for some time, Alex had it for 2 days, now it's coming my way. It's not orange, it's Bahama Yellow

Gavin,
Alex bought the one I've got from a guy in London so it may well have been the same one, I don't have the old reg document to hand so I can't quite remember the area of London. Nick - is that the South African 912? I had a look at that - beautiful car but was a little out of my price range.

Murray

I think this is your car isn't it? I saw it in Cambridgeshire before Alex bought it. Did you get all the file of bills with the car? The restoration was done by Supreme Motors in SW London. The one I have bought is the SA car

Hi Nick,
Yep that's it. I did get a load of receipts which if I remember rightly cover about 20 years of history (with a few gaps).

Such a small world. I met Alex though an Ex friend of mine who had that Grey 67 912 for sale a few months back he turned up to look at welding chris's barn door VW up. That was stored at my mates unit. Alex ran across the unit and spoted my 1954 356 and wanted to buy it. My mate said you have more chance of the POPE going to a rave than you have of this guy(me )selling you that car. later I met Alex from his web site and he said he had seen an amazing 54 in Gosport .. Then I said hmmm that's mine. Small world..

To date roughly we have the following early 356's

2 1951's
2 1953's
3 1954's
2 1955's
oh and Alex's mates 65

and of coarse 912's..

Move over Mr Hampton us wipper snappers are coming though [:D][:D][:D]

checked the old reg document for mine and the car's last owner was in E2 so that probably means you did see it about Gavin. Spookily about 15 years ago the car lived about a mile from me when I was still in Glasgow!
