PAINT PROTECTION

Hi, I'm a new memeber to the club and am picking up my 997 c4s today from opc Glasgow. Does anyone have any recommendations for paint protection systems that are Worth the investment? <In the Glasgow area is would be ideal.> Opc Glasgow wanted 450 pounds for what appeared to be Diamond Bright and I felt that this was a bit of a rip off, your views would be a appreciated.

Hi Dave
Welcome to the forum ..lucky you picking up a new car , the Diamond bright stuff is a waste of money and you can buy the pack at trade at £28 ,There is a product called Armourfend or similair which is a film applied to the car ,but on certain colours you can see the join,Best advise is to get the car prof valeted clay bared and Zimmol or Swissol which will lay down a protective base , there is a guy on the forum Dave who is ace at this work there are links in the forum which will guide you to his site .Most Porsches need the front end painted after time enjoy you car and keep posting on the forum and come along to the monthly meetings

diamond brite is no better than autoglym polish - I have a kit and it looks and smells the same stuff.....don't waste yer money.

As brian says, try dave - his website is here: http://www.jac-in-a-box.com/

I'd recomend armourfend or other variants by 3M, strategically placed on the front nose/around lights etc and on the rear wings at the wheel arch , that is if placing plastic on your car is your thing. Otherwise, I would apply a good wax such as Zymol, Swissoil etc. Zymol, though expensive is a favourite of mine. Have a look at Vertar.co.uk or .com for a preview.

I would add that as long as it is a good quality hard carnauba wax there is no need to spend the stupid money that zymol costs, also it is not very durable.

Yes- I would have a tendency to agree with this, to a certain extent, however I'd like to see the comparative tests which uniquivocally proves this point against other brands. It's not what it costs, it's what your prepared to pay for it. If you visit the USA, one can get it considerably cheaper. The more interesting aspects of paint protection can be found in many places on the web. There are very good arguments for synthetic's as there are for naturally occuring products, it's personal preference at the end of the day.

:)

When I had a light coloured car I used Zaino, however on dark colours the Zaino although very good was surpassed by carnauba products. Also Zymol is not used that much in the US as they feel it is grossly overpriced and there are plenty of other products on the market that perform as well as or better at a fraction of the price.

Yes, I remember Zaino, but never used it , I believe it was brought to the UK market by Rob Mugglestone (of Purely 911). To be honest, I've never done a cross comparison. It would be interesting to be able to get your hands on the base products. Are you going to the Kinghornbody shop meet on the 29th, perhaps we could have a chat then.

Sincerely

Jeff

I bought some when I was over in the US. May even have some left in the garage!

Don't think I will make it but if its a nice day may just go for the drive.

Dave did my car a little over a year ago and you will not be disappointed. He has a soft spot for Porsche especially 993's[:D]

Sounds very like Carlack, Rejex and Klasse. If it does the same job then could be a good product.

I have used all of the above and currently am using the Carlack products at the moment, which is rebadged Klasse for the US market, and they do a good job but have to be topped off with a good hard carnauba wax to really get the depth.

Let me give you a bit of advice "live for today". You have a brand new 997, drive it like you have no tomorrow and f&*k the stone chips...you will be a long time dead....

Welcome to the forum . good point ,but I guess when it is your £70 k tied up one tends to look at it in a differant way ..I do like your car and the colour is nice once had a 3.2 carrera in a similair colour .
Brian

Did I hear my name?!

Back from the first part of a UK Tour slightly battered and tattered...I've got your mail David and I'll give you a ring.

And, yes William, I do have a soft spot for Porsche's - particularly yours[;)]

A post to take the opportunity to thank Dave ,of Jac in the box , for all the hard work and meticulous attention he lavished on my 997 on Friday of last week.

Dave's work can only be fully appeciated when you se it at first hand. I think I'll go and show it to the sales manager at opc Glasgow and let him see close up how the product he sells should be presented.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Daves work , his patience, skill and the value for money his service provides is unbeleivable.

Many thanks to Dave. Thanks to tyhe forum for recommending him to me. CHEERS!

Thank you for the appreciative comments David...I feel I it should be me thanking you; it was an absolute pleasure to massage your rear - the car of course[:D]

Gorgeous car in Midnight Blue, lovely location and an a "tropical" day in Glasgow...it doesn't get any better!
