Paint sealant protection systems

Hi,

I am considering adding a paint sealant (DiamondBrite) to a 2007 Boxster to protect and improve the appearance.

Has anyone had any experience with sealants, the good and the bad, and the best place to get it done?

Thanks

Is this something you are considering doing yourself or something the dealer is wanting you to buy?

If it is the later, beware they are typically overpriced for what they are offering. Keep your money and invest in some good quality products of your own.

Jewelbrite or diamondbrite are available on ebay , under £15 for the cleaner and sealant.

If you want to be lazy (wash the car every 2 weeks, not bothered about it being REALLY clean etc etc) then the treatment is fine, but it can't compete with good quality waxes for water beading, depth of shine etc.

Horses for courses - diamondbrite is a once per year application.

Autoglym Lifeshine treatment is a better option, also available on ebay !

Both take about 2 hours to complete on a washed n dried car.

Thanks for the responses, I like the sound of £15 rather than £300 [:)]

If I do it myself is there anything that could go wrong and is it irreversible?

You might like to consider that it will probably prevent you from being able to renew your Porsche warranty.

Apply stage 1 cleaner to clean dry car, leave to dry (5 mins) - then apply directly on top stage 2, allow to dry then buff off.

Pretty simple really ! Of course the cleaner the car to start with the better the finish, so you might want to consider a clay bar and lubricant first to remove tree sap, fallout and tar spots.

I believe the Autoglym Lifeshine system provides a better finish..

I've not used this, but my experience of Diamondbrite lasted about a month on one car and 5 days on another - i just didn't like the look of the finished car, or the lower degree of water beeding compared to carnauba waxes - then again its not the same cost or maintenance as carnauba waxes either !

I had the RS6 "life shined" by the dealer when I bought it . IMO absolute Rubbish, little if any water beading and after 3 or 4 weeks lost all "shine" .. I cleaned it and Zymol'd the car myself .. Now I admit it could have been the dealers "application" and not the Autoglym. However makes me not a big fan myself

Just my 2 Pennies

One of the reasons I am thinking of getting my 987 paint sealed is that is scratches so easily and hopefully a sealant would help prevent that.

I am not sure if my 987 has weak / soft paint but it scratches even when I run a finger nail across the paint, with light - medium pressure.
