Paint??? Where are you guys buying it?

I need at least a touch up pen and ideally a rattle can just to touch up a bit of paint. Shes 23 year old and needs a little TLC.

I've looked in all the local motor factors and so far no one does it.

My car is black but i guess it has a bit more of name than Porsche black.

Any ideas?

I'm moving house next friday so cant really get the compressor/spray kit out just looking for a temporary but decent finish that'll last through winter.

Cheers folks and sorry for all these questions. I've got so many as a new owner.

Your local OPC is your best bet - £5 from memory.

I think Adrian at Exeter OPC will do a postal service (but I haven't used him and may have got the name of both the man and the dealership wrong [] )

Half right ,Exeter do a good postal service ,its marc or chris who are in the parts department now .

Will, I got a touch up pen (guards red) from the OPC in Leeds. I would have thought they would do the black you need.

OPC can't do discontinued colours. Halford's do matching in touch up or rattle can I believe.

Paul Smith may be able to confirm, but it have a feeling that a VW Black has the same colour/mixing contents as the 80's Porsche black.

Jon is right. If it is a flat black with no metallic content then pretty much all blacks are the same.

The Porsche solid black has been the same formulation from 1971 to 2007 whether it is code 04 or A1 or 700

The VW solid black has been the same since 1982 whether it is code 9000, 9010, A1, A2, L041, LO41 or LY9B

If you still struggle getting some locally then try Automotive Paint Supplies in Newbury Berks (Tel 01635 43149 or 42790). They will match any paint and send out touch up kits by post, I'm not so sure about aerosol cans [&:]

Sorry folks I'm not trying to do a plug here, but Halfords do a touch up paint for £7.99 about 100mls worth which comes with a brush in the lid, and an aerosol can 300ml usually goes for £9.99. I know these things as its one of my jobs mixing and matching paint at Halfords.

Unfortunately Halfords only go back to '86 so I can't get rubinrot for my '84 (this is not meant as a criticism, I'm very impressed you can get '86 Porsche colours off them).

I've used both Porscheshop and Halfords for colour match spray cans. The halfords mixed paint was a closer match than the Porscheshop supplied paint. This was Silver Rose though, so not the easiest to match.
