Does anyone know if there is a near enough equivalent to Porsche paintwork that can be bought from outlets other than OPCs? I look through the racks in my local Halfords for Porsche colours and they don't have it so I guess that its difficult to get, but is it difficult to match from the ranges for VW/FORD/GM etc?

Guard's Red. I looked at the VW, but they must have different names and my colour vision isn't so good as to be able to be sure whether there was a close match or not.

I bourght a can of Guards Red for my wing mirrors from www.porscheshop.co.uk
Perfect match. It was £16,50 for a big can.

Like Mark said, most are VW/Audi colours, so if you have your paint code you can cross reference it to one of these as the codes are the same.

i had a paint specilaist mix me a colour match, Jawal Paints uk , i must say its a very good job, i re-sprayed my nose last year and its a perfect match so much so i then painted the sills. I would recommend theis method. But you do need a compressor and a little skill to get a good result. by the way i bought a litre of two pack and i still have half a litre left. The colour code is in the boot, by the spare wheel.

Thanks for the tips. I've got a compressor and a couple of guns. I think these were for cellulose paints though, will these work with two pack paints?

Does it not have the little "options sticker" in the boot (usually on the back panel if I am not mistaken) I believe that Has the paint code on it.

'76, '77 and '78 models years used Mars Red assuming its original paint. However being so old I would have a paint supplier colour match it as red fades so easily. Assuming no one resprayed it over the last 35 years with a coat of Guards Red which wasn't introduced until '79 model year. Malaga Red was introduced in '78.

The paint code on my '79 is near where the earth strap for the battery grounds under the bonnet - you might want to check there.
If its any sort of red and original, different panels will have faded to different shades.

Tried posting a pic but tablet wont let me lol. Ive looked for the sticker before but nae luck. It has a orange kinda tinge to it but not faded

Have you read the "PORSCHE 924 FAQ - READ THIS FIRST" thread on this forum?
