Paint

No doubt this has been asked before but I would appreciate any help on this. Had a slight ding the other day reversing into the garage - I know, done it hundreds of times etc, etc but there you are. Managed to beat it out and pretty much ready to paint. Is there any supplier out there who can supply aerosol paint cans for Porsche colours? I was hoping that someone on here may be able to recommend a supplier that they have used with good results as I'd really like to get the job finished. Thanks a lot.

A large motor paint factor will make up aerosols (as will Halfords) The difference being that you should take your car there as the good ones use a spectrometer thingy to match exactly. I have heard that Halfords use a Dulux type system to mix the colour and the paint match is poor.

Porscheshop sell rattle cans and touch up pens. I would recommend the same person as I always do, put Autopaint St Helens in to Google. He is a nice man good service and good prices and can include lacquer and any other sundries without ripping you off. His paint colour match is better than any off the shelf I have had anywhere. So far he has successfully matched two Metallic Green Volvo , Two Porsche and one Rover colour (White Gold 2) for me. My first can of Zermatt I bought elsewhere was a joke but his was far better than you might expect on a 25 year old car and I used it to respray the mirrors to rid them of chips etc. Regards Mas

I'm slightly biased because although I've been in the NE for nearly 20 years I'm originally from St Helens so would send people to Autopaint evertime (same with anyone wanting darts and accessories, A180 Darts are in St Helens as well lol) But the truth is Autopaint are probably the best in the country for matching paints, and as Mas says they are really nice people as well, Mettalic Hellblau & alpine white from them have been perfect for me [;)]

Thank you very much everybody for your prompt and helpful replies. I have used Autopaint once in the past for an MGB and the match was excellent. I just wanted confirmation from other 944 owners as to their ability to match the Porsche colours. There is nothing like the recommendation of another owner to "seal the deal" so to speak. I will away to their website and see what I can find. Thanks to all.[:)]

I would find a bodyshop that uses modern 'water based' paints not cellulose. The water based paints match better and have the 'laquer' built in so its a one-coat solution. The bodyshop I used matched my paint so perfectly I defy anybody to detect it. They didn't even need to spray an overspray fade/blend into adjacent panels. They mixed and tried 3x mixes before the test swatch matched . Orginal question was about buying the paint to do your own repair, sure we'd all love to pop it in the bodyshop everytime but that not always the option for most people, and if its just a small patch anyone with time and the patience can get a great result. I can agree though that they can get excellent matches with water based and a fantastic finish, had the front wings for the Hellblau one done that way, bloody expensive though.

never suggested otherwise chum .[;)] read the post I suggested obtaining your paint at a bodyshop for convenience and to use their vast experience. Not getting the bodyshop to do the work for you.

I have a friend who has a bodyshop, get work done there, i have noticed the finish on water based paints is very good...................too good as it is very flat unlike cellulose which has orange peel effect slightly, a bit like the original. The water baswed stuff is quite soft though and chips easier, someone with a spectromer is the way to go !
