Paintwork disaster - help needed!

Hello everyone,

having bought a 912 towards the end of last year it's very disappointing that my first post as an owner here has to be a tale of woe [:(]

My lovely new vehicle has been the victim of a rather unfortunate incident where rain water has leaked through a crack in the roof of the underground car park it was parked in. Due to some kind of chemical process I'm not entirely clear on the rain water seems to have picked up sulphates or whatever from the concrete roof turning it into a nasty mixture that has reacted with / burned into the paintwork down one entire side of the car. Having problems uploading an image but you can see the distressing sight here; http://www.orangutanstudio.com/boohoo

So i need some recommendations of a good bodyshop that will be-able to restore the 912 to it's former self - to be honest at this point I'm not sure if it requires a re-spray or some kind of hi-end polishing might do the job - I'm aiming for as good a quality job here as possible and hopefully it will end up on the insurance but who knows.

Any help seriously appreciated.

cheers,

Neil

yeah not good, nice car BTW. You might be lucky and be able to cut out the most part of it. BUT if it has gone too deep yep you might be in for some paint work. What a real shame. Fingers crossed you can get it mopped out. You could see a local paint shop as they if they are any good can see if it will come out or not with some mopping and buffing...

Keep us informed [:)]

Bummer . . . where abouts are you based? I'd try contacting your 'Regional Organiser' . . . he/she 'should' have a better feel for who's good in your area. Warning : they will try and get you to go to a club meeting . . . which might not be a bad idea . . . get some more recommendations.

Thanks for the messages guys - hopefully it will have a happy ending - 'early 911' I'm based in central London

Hi Neil,
As everyone has said depends on the depth of damage and the possible approaches to remedying the awful situation.
I am going to see a very good paint guy on Friday so I will ask his opinion, any chance you could email me some close up shots?

Chin up...
Cheers

That would be great thanks Gavin - I'll mail you some close ups - I've got plenty on my home computer - when I get back tonight.

Cheers,

neil

Gav ping over a few to me I will take a look. Might be lucky but it looks like it might have turned in to a slight acid and that might not be good.

If it is simple then it could be as quick as

2000 wet and dry with " some soap!!!", cutting polish and then mop up with a glaze..

I hope for you it is then this is an easy fix about £100 I guess from a body shop..if you were closer I would show you and do it with you..

Mmm, caustic burns - not nice. You mght want to try rubbing some malt vinegar over them to neutralise any buil up on the paint, then try a slightly abrasive polish like pukka trtle wax or simoniz.

Difficult to say how bad they are form a distance

Certainly looks like it, I think there is a photographic lab in there I went to see once...

Took the pics to the body man and he says the best thing would be to run the car over to him, you can be there in 50 mins from EC2, give me a call if you want to discuss....
