Paintwork specialists in London Area

Dapster

New member
Hello boys and girls - this is my 1st post so please be gentle with me.

I have a Lapis Blue ' 01 2.7 Boxster which I plan to sell soon due to an imminent house purchase. Before I sell, I wanted to give it a proper spruce up - the front PU panel is pitted with stone chips, the rear PU has a couple of scuffs and a scratch on the o/s outer edge and overall the bodywork is showing signs of london life - nothing malicous but odd scratches here and there.

I have had a quote from Lancasters in Colchester and when I got off the floor I took it to Tower in near Tower Bridge, who' s premises were packed with 911' s and 912' s. They also had 3 brand new Boxsters in the compound as well.

My question is, has anyone had any experience of Tower? Are they any good with new cars or is their skill only with older classics? If anyone can recommend a good body shop in the East/North London area I would be very grateful.

Many thanks in anticipation!

sorry i can' t help as i don' t know London, but i would have said that if it' s good anough for the chaps with the older cars then it' s good anough for a beloved Boxster. the chaps with heritage cars are usally quite fussy......go and have a look at the finish of a few of the ones they have done.

Nic Doczi may be able to help his a Londoner!!

A little out of your way but Bodytechnics in Slough did some work for me on a car recently and I found the quality of work & service excellent. They also quoted me less than a couple of good independents I have used - all with the benefit of the Porsche Lifetime Warranty.

Just used Solus (approved centre), not cheap but good, though it did have to go back for a touch up

Again, a little out of the way, but I have found that Protek of Luton do an excellent job. They are approved specialists as well.

You fools!!! Don' t give him any advice on how to get rid of a Porsche!!! Experience of Tower!!!! ought to be shut in it I say.....

Be gentle with him!!! First Post and getting rid of his Porsche!!!!!????

Bah! Choke!!!... Fellow ought to be thrashed within an inch of his life......

Suggestions should be more along the line of:-

" Dapster, old chap, have you really considered this issue thoroughly? Have you any other possessions that would fund this intended purchase of a home??? Can' t you get rid of the wife?? They cost a lot to run.... have you done a comparative spreadsheet that illustrates that she actually costs a darn sight more than the Boxster??

Have you any children or pets you could get rid of??? Ebay is quite good for this, no questions asked. Any objections from wifey (if she is still around of course) you just explain to her just how expensive university education is these days whereas the Boxster value could actually appreciate in real terms.

Do you really need a home at all, what with global warming and these little alfresco cafes sprouting everywhere you could live in the great outdoors or build a small economic mud hut.

Really think you ought to reconsider."

For what its worth I got a quote from SOLUS for a ' bare plastic' respray of the fron PU, came in at over £750, which is absurd! Try Chipsaway they might be cheap, and tell me how you get on, I live in London too and my front PU is still in need of some TLC!

Rodney,

I got a high quote from Solus, but bargained it down a little. I just paid £1344 to repair a dent/scrape of engine intake panel and blend of door and boot lid, plus respay of rear rising spoiler, and an engine reset.
Not cheap, but not absurd, and an approved repairer, the car is only 8 months old.

Tim

Let me hang my head in shame! First post and it' s about getting rid of the beloved Boxster as you have correctly observed. I have no pets or kids to sell, my wife is actually my girlfriend and you' re quite correct - if I get rid of her I would have enough spare readies for a GT3RS as well as the new house.....

Sadly though - it' s gotta go. Tower have quoted for:

- Fill in of deep pits in front PU (stone chips)
- Repaint PU
- Fill in deep scratch to rear PU
- Repaint rear PU
- Touch up flaking paint on drivers door mirror housing
- Cut and prepare rest of car bodywork
- Polish car to remove all surface scratches

They' ll need it for 4 days (to dry the PU' s basically) and want £550 + VAT which sounds like a steal. Lancaster wanted over £1k for a new front PU alone as they weren' t prepared to repaint it.

I' ll let you know how I get on....

Thanks for all your comments so far.

Dapster,

Just keep reminding her (I would suggest at least 7 times a day) all that you have given up just for her......

Try these people
