Paintwork ???

Guest

New member
We had some sun at the weekend so I took the porker for a blast.....when I got back I spent some time just having a look around in the sun and I strted to see the little scratches, dings etc that I had more or less forgot about over the winter.

So....a few queries;

Under similair conditions have other members had a paint job ?
Did you have a full job or just a blow over?....if so were you happy with it?
How much can I expect to pay?
Where do you recopmmend?

Thanks in advance

Mark

I have been doing the same over the W/E..........
If the scratches are relatively minor then you can work at them with a scratch remover like either meguiyers scratch x or t cut scratch remover which are both a minor rubbing compound, Then finish of with a carnauba based polish which over time fills minor scratches and swirls, i can personally vouch for Raceglaze polish on my midnight blue C2,Raceglaze which is designed specifically for dark coloured cars, no dust or residue left behind, works well on all colours
Zymol polish also contains carnauba wax ase used by many but costs more.
The little " dings" if accesible eg. a door, can be removed without painting by places like dentmaster who basically roll the dent out with a small tool and if the paint isnt already damaged you shouldnt need a spray job, i have heard they charge approximately £50 per panel ?? Someone here will probably confirm this.

Thanks Elliott....I use Zymol anyway and although I think a new going over will help I dont think it wil finish it off the way I would like....same with the dings really.

No...I am sure I would like some paint work done...still looking for help and advice

[:(] Im feeling dissapointed[:(][:(][:(]
Cant anybody offer any advice ????

Possibly the best advice would be to take your car to a Body shop and ask them for their professional opinion. A mechanical polish might suffice, its surprising what difference that makes. I don' t personaly know of Body shops in your area. I am sure someone living nearby will be able to recommend somewhere. We have one in my area, but that' s possibly a hundred miles from you. Kevin recently had some work done there and was very satisfied

Good luck,
Ken

Hi,

In reference to Ken' s comment I had some paintwork repairs and blemishes carried out recently, and am very satisfied. They are in Colchester so that' s some distance from you.
But my experiences are thus:-
Get to know someone (difficult at the moment or so it seems) ask them to take you through the steps they will take.
Request that the price is hard, not an estimate but a written quote.
Request that any areas of concern that arise later are discussed before giving the go ahead, or better still visit and have a chat and inspect areas of concern.
Ask for satisfied clients, I didn' t need this part as I already knew of the body shops reputation.
My paint job, which also included rust repairs and a couple of dings and blending other areas cost @ 1k + the dreaded vat.
details to be found here:-

And the definition of a " mechanical polish" is ?????
Or am I asking you to state the obvious [:D]
Good points and bad points please Mel

Mark - I had my car done @ Francis Tuthills...John in the paint shop is a wizrd with the gun, so should be able to sort you out a treat.

I' m sure I told you about this on an e-mail...is it yet another one you didn' t read ??
