Pan roof what's the attraction?

Hi all,

I'm still looking to swap to a more recent Cayenne or Macan, currently have a 4.8S without Pan roof. Very many I see for sale have the Pan roof option and I see a lot of comments in forums that many consider this an essential option. This puzzles me as it's heavy and high up, apparently expensive to fix and quite prone to problems (unless only those that have issues post and the majority are happily using), I suspect very noisy if opened and will result in more heat soak in to the car when it's hot, further my local indie says virtually all the they get in for service have the blind closed, so apparently not used if fitted.

My question is to those that have them, do you use them, whats the benefit, apart from the obvious brighter interior, do they have the problems I expect?

If all options on a car are right, I'd be probably be willing to risk a pan roof (depending on answers to this post?). My preference is for not having one, but I wonder if this would create re-sale issues as they are a sought after option.

My 1st glass roof was my 993 Targa. Was going for a Cab after my Targa SC but after sitting it the new Glass Roof Targa I was sold.
This also applies to my 955 Cayenne Turbo S with the Panoramic Roof.
The light is amazing even on a cold winters day. With different options for opening and the Sun Blind.
I find that being 6ft 2 that I do feel the airflow compared to my Targa but the angles and heights are very different.
In my Targa its open when ever dry even when cold, just crank up the heating or AC when the sun is out
The Panoramic roof is much bigger and if maintained should be fine. Keeping drains clean, mechanism correctly lubed and rubbers supple are the main things. Your dealer/Specialist can help there if your not hands on.
Little things like not closing it when driving at high speed as causes more drag and break/damage drive gear
My best advise is sit in one compared to a non Sunroof or Sunroof one. Just brightens up your day. Kids can watch the birds and stars through the roof
I keep the blind closed when sunny to help keep the cabin a little cooler when parked up but can also crack open the middle section for ventilation too. When driving I open it up again

Not sure where your based but if nr Banbury M40 J11 you can come see mine.

Hope that helps

Graham

I was same a few years ago ... WHY bother with a over priced sun roof when you have AC in the car and then I got a dealer principle car from Silverstone which had it Pano roof (and also tech pack, red seat belts and other stuff I would never have spec'd) .. To be honest we loved it, so much so we spec'd it on our new Cayenne we got in Dec .. as others say keep the rails lub'd and drains clean and just simply use it .. makes a great add to a Cayenne .. and yeah we also have a Boxster GTS for when we want "BIG" pano roof :D

Gents,

Thanks for the replies, I feel a bit more inclined to take the "risk" now, just got to find the right car once we can all get out again.

Graham, thanks for the offer but I'm a ways away from you in Plymouth

Hi Neil

That's fine. If you need a long drive out when we can let me know
Good luck with your search

Agree with previous comments. The Pan Roof makes the interior so much lighter - especially if you have a black interior - very pleased I have it on mine.

I've got the Pan roof in both the Macan and Cayenne. I wouldn't go without one now. The cabin is so much brighter and airier. You have the blind if you wish to shut it up BUT I've not done so yet. I will also open up during the spring/summer too. If you can find one with then I'd recommend it. If i had a choice now I wouldn't go for a car without a pan' roof.

All the best
Steve
