Panels

Been collecting a few panels since buying my recent project, I don't think the car will require them all but I'd rather have them and not need them than vice versa when it goes to the bodyshop.

So yesterday I picked up a couple of inner rear quarter panels from Kendal OPC, if your car needs this full panel I would think you're in trouble, I bought these as the lower part makes up the rear end of the inner sill and the full panel was .....£83.

My reasoning is that if the end of the sill requires a repair this panel can be chopped and will fit perfectly as opposed to paying £25 ph labour for the bodyshop to make a panel out of flat steel.

With the other genuine panels in stock and a lower rear quarter repair panel from Classic Panels, very good quality, I put the jigsaw together .....roughly

Hi Paul

Nice panels and yesIi agree it's always best to have more than required than not..the first panel you show is the one that i had to repair after the car sat for 4 years on the drive during the engine rebuild, although for me it was the other side. I also agree that if you require the whole panel the car may be beyond saving, well at least in as far as cost is concerned that is. I cut out the bad section on mine and fabricated new parts, details covered in my engine build thread. I had one other bit of corrosion which was the lower passenger front wing, in this case, it was due to debris hitting the car more than 10 years ago which had slowly got worse, very slowly I might add which is testimony to how well the car was originally protected with it's galvanised steel. The good thing is that only an hour ago i received a call from my body shop to say that the car is ready after finally getting around to getting this part repaired...I'm looking forward to picking the old girl up soon....:)

I wish I'd known that the little curved panel at the bottom of the wheel arch which closes the sill was available when I did mine. Mine had completely gone in this area but I assumed it to be part of the inner wheel arch panel and therefore fabricated a replacement. Would have been so much easier to use an OE panel!

I managed to pick a full offside rear quarter panel on ebay a while back. Well, when I say full I mean apart from the bottom 10 inches forward of the wheel arch. Seems someone bought a full panel just to cut out a repair section. I figured it was worth having the remnant anyway in case I ever need any other sections out of it.

Well I picked the old girl up, looking good although can't really tell until tomorrow in daylight but I'm confident that they would have done a good job, not let me down yet. I'll take a picture if dry tomorrow and add it to my build thread, in the meantime here's a photo of the damaged section once removed, not that bad really considering the original damage to the paintwork happened 10 years ago....
