Interesting drive out yesterday, guys, courtesy of Exeter OPC. []
A small bunch of deserving candidates had been gathered together for the purpose of sampling and comparing some of the latest offerings from Porsche AG.
We had available a Panamera S, a Gen 2 Cabriolet and a Gen 2 Carrera S. Each had Sports Chrono and PDK on buttons. []
A swift drive down into Cornwall and back was planned, interrupted by pit stops for coffee and lunch together with a change round of cars and drivers so everyone could have a go.
First off for me was the Panamera. Not really my sort of motor, but it was quick, sure-footed and did the job admirably. Rearward visibility is a bit restrictive due to the sharp rake of the rear screen; also passengers in the back seats have a rather narrow window to peer out of, which would tend to make kids fidgety if they can't see out.
Next up was the 997S. Now this is a proper car, quick, responsive and definitely the most enjoyable to drive. In the real world and in the right hands, there's not much that will go quicker on public roads in UK at any price! [8|]
But all too soon, this drive came to an end and then there was in the Cab. []
Not a rag-top fan myself, it was nevertheless difficult to tell it had a cloth roof from within the sumptuous cabin. True to characteristics, it was a bit flexy in the chassis when pressing on at a fairly high rate on knots, also it was a bit prone to crosswinds - the steering felt a tad too heavy for my liking. I'm not sure if this is a model trait or just the weighting in this particular car. However, I'm sure if open air driving is your bag, this is as good a piece of kit as you can buy for the money.
Still it was the 997 S for me - no question.
Thanks to Exeter OPC for the invitiation, hospitality and a most enjoyable day out. Sorry no photos.
Regards,
Clive
