Parcels From Abroad

I posted the following on another thread but, knowing how you lot like buy stuff from over the pond, I take the liberty of including it here for your information:-

In the past, when recieving packages from abroad, if delivered by Parcel Force they would collect any excise duty on delivery. BE WARNED - THEY DON'T DO IT THAT WAY ANY MORE.

Now, if there is duty to pay, they hold on to the package and send you a letter demanding payment before they will deliver the package. Apparently, this has all changed due to the increase in packages from abroad through internet purchases.

We were badly caught out by this earlier this week while waiting for a flash gun required for a shoot on Monday night. The flash arrived at the local depot on Friday morning, we phoned monday morning to check its whereabouts [] and was missinformed that it was on a van for delivery. It wasn't delivered [][] and, on Tuesday (too late)[:(], my wife went to the depot herself to pay and collect the goods.

The letter informing us that the goods were in the country, and requesting payment, arrived this morning [][][]

Based on the above - don't bother paying extra for 3 day delivery from Honk Kong (or America) - there ain't no such thing any more.
