Parking brake adjustment

Does anyone have experience of adjusting the rear parking brakes please?

The cable movement is fine and cable adjustment seems even but near side brake is not holding.

Discovered this at recent MOT, passed OK but would like to sort it!

Thanks.

best bet would be to get discs off and clean up the surfaces of the inside of the discs where the shoes grab and clean up the shoes too..

This is covered in the maintenance manual--suggest you clean everything first which means removing the discs which includes the drum internally. You might find a worn down shoe or two on one side--however be very careful when removing the disc & cleaning the lever mechanism-it contains little circular dowels which are only held in place by the split lever arm around it.
I had one side which didn't lock-the cause was somebody in the past had clearly lost one of these dowels & replaced it with an ordinary brass screw,The lost movement resulted in that side being unable to lock up.
If all that is ok(or you don't want to remove the discs),then correct procedure is to back off the handbrake cable adjuster, adjust the individual shoe sets each side by the click adjusters using a suitable screwdriver through the hole in the drum(up tight then back off 2 clicks (I think but check that),then adjust the the handbrake cable with the handbrake on 2clicks on the ratchet(again check that),so that the discs can't be moved without undue effort.
