Parking Lights / Indicator Stalk

Hi All

Discovered something quite strange last night when walking back to my car. Turns out that if the indicator stalk is left on (i.e. to the left or right position so that the indicators flash when the ignition is turned on) when the ignition is turned off, the front parking light on the relevant side of the car turns on. Turn the ignition on and the parking light on that side goes off and indicator starts flashing instead (as you would expect it to). Note that this happens with the headlight switch turned completely off. The headlights and parking lights work fine with the headlight switch turned on in the relevant position, just that one of them also comes on when the indicator is on with the ignition off!

Am completely puzzled by this, but it may explain why the car is sometimes a bit slow in turning over given the obvious battery drain that will be going on.

Hope I have explained this properly without confusing everyone!

yep youll be discovering the 3 speed (+intermittent) wipers next

and how to reset the trip counter that always gets new owners.

You'll find a lot of cars have that function, so you can leave the outside paking light on in a dark street so the car can still be seen.

Feeling a little dim now, as I seem to be the only person who didn't know this!

Am new to the UK though and am almost certain that cars aren't set up like this back in Australia. Although I must admit I'm now starting to wonder if I simply never noticed in over 10 years driving there!

Didn't mean to make you feel dumb, I was on my second 944 before I discovered the three speed wipers [&:]

I think this feature's required in Germany. Certainly all the German cars I've had have had it but few, if any, others have been equipped.

Well, I'm not sure it's written in the owner's manual, actually.

Sad, I had to check, Page 24 in my manual, parking light.
It is a particularly boring section so i dont blame anyone for not reading it. the stalk controls four oper....... Zzzzzzzzzz

I've only ever wanted to use the parking light feature once, but for some reason the remote locking (and hence the alarm) wouldn't work if it was switched on.

Has anyone else out there discovered the 944 'wagging tail' function that my beast developed after light frost on the rear screen?

Here is how it works.... Wait for light frost. Hit rear wiper switch, wait half a second for light crunching plastic noise from rear of car. Get out of car and observe how wiper arm is now wiping down the side of car and working its way round to point at cars behind you. Jump back into car to stop the paintwork and spoiler going the same way as £150 and the rear wiper motor.[>:]

Sounds expensive []

One of the things my dad told me when 'ah wuz a lad' [:D] was never to use the wipers when there is any frost at all on the screen. It's a sure fire way to ruin your blades, and leave streaks on the screen next time it rains
