PARKING SENSORS

A friend of mine recently had parking sensors retrofitted to his XKR by his local Jag' dealer - cost about £250. Does anyone know if OPC's do this and has anyone had it done / know the likely cost? (And yes I can reverse park - just can't always see whats hidden behind me!)

Regards

Chris, parking sensors appear to be a factory-fit option only as they are not in the Porsche Boxster Tequipment catalogue. Having said that, there are a couple of things in that catalogue that are not available in the UK market.

Chris When I enquired I was told by my OPC that it was not possible to retrofit the Porsche Parking Sensor system to my 2000 S. The reason given was that the wiring loom is made to accomodate each option specified at the point of manufacture of the car. The OPC could not/would not modify the wiring loom to fit this option. There are of course non Porsche aftermarket options but I personally wouldn't consider these. Having this option on another car and knowing how useful it is I only wish I had specified it!

Having reversed in a couple of walls myself they are no doubt very useful but they are not very pretty on a Boxster.

Mind you nor are the scags left in the bumper after my last talentless moment!

JCB..

Get them removed painlessly at your home by Chipsaway .... 020 8211 0035 They will give you your local agents info. We use them all the time on our company fleet vehicles and our local guy is brilliant. You have to see it to believe it [8D] Regards Robert

Only problem with the non factory fitted sensors is they hardly show at all unlike the ugliest reverse sensors in the auto world fitted by the factory [;)]

"Either way I'd never get it, I couldn't stand the constant beeping."

Try driving forwards - benefits:
1. You can see where you're going without hurting your neck.
2. The car goes faster.
3. The bleeping stops.

I find parking sensors particularly useful on wet dark nights with no street lighting when rear visibility is almost nil and where space is tight. Better a few bleeps than volumes of them verbally when you hit something!

I had parking sensors on my M3s and it's made me completely loose any reversing skills I used to have! They were great but I find that using my judgement solves 99.9% of 'parking issues'.... I guess I may eat those words when I reverse into a hidden post... :)

We had the same problem last year. I seem to recall it was battery related but can't be 100% as the recall is not what it used to be![:(] Have you had problems with or changed the battery recently? Other than that I guess it could be a faulty sensor.

Had exactly the same - faulty sensor (but can't tell which one ) so changed them all, plus the unit - all fine again.

Thanks is it posible to do this job yourself. It looks that you have to remove the rear bumper. Can you recall the cost of the unit.

Regards
Alan

I actually got mine (colour coded) from eBay for about £20. Then my local indy fitted them for £50 - and it does involve removing the rear bumper
