Look out for Evo magazine #137 you Caymanites! 480bhp with more to come, Quaife LSD and GT3 nose vent. Now I could be sorely tempted.........![8D]

If it was only for one day it would be worth it, John! Sadly, if my own experience is anything to go by, that would not be the case. An 08 Cayman S with 7000 miles £36k, a Parr conversion for £12k, that sounds like a really mean, brilliantly handling car for £48k!

Mmmmm. Exactly. Its taken me 8 years to really get to know my bolide, road and track. Now this comes along. There was a yellow one recently which I had a job getting by, on a "power" track no less. All because of the roadholding . Would I be able to handle the wifely derision?? Going to get a wet towel. JohnC 993turbo
 
Hmmm. Problem is, there's good , and then there is ruddy brilliant. Whilst I remain in love with my lardass, she do wallow a touch round tight ones (even after shocks renewal).But that there Cayman just pointed and went. JohnC 993turbo
 
Interesting that they used a Sport limited edition model as the basis - I wonder if there was a particular advantage in that, or it was just what they happened to have handy?
 
Incidentally, does anyone know if the nose vent has a purpose on this conversion? On a GT3 it vents hot air from the central radiator, but a Cayman doesn't have a central radiator (just a plastic bucket, 987.505.751.00-01C, which I can't see helping the aerodynamics any better than just blanking the central opening off would!)

The Parr conversion includes an additional centrally mounted front radiator which feeds the turbo intercooler.
Excellent, so it's turning the existing purely-cosmetic central well in the bumper into a functional piece of the car, I like it [:D]
As for the bonnet vent ... it's a cosmetic option. At least that's how Evo magazine's write-up describes it.
I hope it is ducted from the central radiator, it's just so much more aesthetically pleasing if it's actually performing a useful function!

Strange - so the turbo is in the back and the intercooler is in the front? That is alot of volume to pressurise when the turbo comes on. Turbo charged engines do tend to want to run hotter so maybe there is an extra engine coolant rad up front.
 
Having read the DIY install over on planetporsche this still looks a little crude , a lot of cutting of original parts and tie wrapping of cables and hoses. I think a kit including the airbox and modified undertray/ bracket would make thisconversion seem a little more professional. I'm sure it gives excellent performance but its not a conversion for those worried about warranties or making drastic changes to their pride and joy. Personally I am a little concerned that such an increase in horsepower is achieved with no other upgrading of engine internals. The 3.7 Autofarm conversion uses the stronger crank from the 997 and their improved liners , even Ruf will not modify above 400 hp on their own supercharged conversion , unless the car has been fully inspected first.

The Parr conversion is really a TPC kit yet I believe the write up in the magazines omits this fact.
 
TPC ? Having tasted Caterham I'm rather interested in the prospects for Caymen. Spinning a 964 is much harder work [;)]
