Part Needed 944.102.124.00

Hi guys

Has anyone got a spare crank pulley backing plate that they wish to pass on, can't seem to find mine, not even sure if I retrieved it when the crank pulley fell off..lol
part number is 944.102.124.00
It's basically a spacing plate that sits behind the crank pulley, seems Porsche no longer make them, not surprising really as it's not something that wears out, just don't loose it....:)
So if anyone has stripped down an engine for parts and still has the plate I'd be very interested in hearing from you, I could always turn something up on the lathe is need be but would be nice to get the proper part, especially as I don't know how thick it should be if I choose to make one.

Cheers

Pete

You sure about that part number Pete? I can't find it in PET. Just going to check my old block but I don't think I have it if I am thinking about the right part. +1 for trying Elliot if not

Hi Rob

I guess I should have put this image up to begin with... it's the large washer type plate with the holes around it part no. 19A

edit: not sure if it's holes or not... just looks like it in the image

Ahh now I have got it mate. I thought I had answered your call sitting here with 21 in my greasy mitt lol. Alas my 19a got transferred over with the pulley sorry.

I've often wondered what that bit does... Because as far as I can remember, nether actually butts onto it, or against it, or is spaced by it. The power steering pulley is a clearance within it, and is clamped to the hub of the ribbed pulley... I assumed it was something to do with balancing it, and as such, never found any reason to remove it from the pulley... So I'd be interested to hear of any other purpose for it?

Is it turbo specific? I have an S2 engine in bits

Hi timmyturtle

I would say not as it's a 944 part number... a Turbo only part would start 951 ...

Thanks Tim the part arrived this morning... I have a question that someone may be able to answer for me...
Actually it's in two parts..... first my crank pulley has what looks like 3 weights attached around it's rim, not easy to see with the steering pump pulley in the way but just viewable if one has an engine with easy access. My first question is could you please check where these weights are in relation to the crank key-way, there's no guarantee that all are the same but at least it may stop me being totally out. Next question is in relation to the part that Tim kindly sent me.... on the PET drawing it looks like this is fitted on the outside face of the crank pulley, however I'm wondering if it goes between the pulley and the large geared wheel behind it. My reasoning behind this is with the crank bolt done up, not torqued though there is a lot of play, the pulley/gear combination can be rocked on the crank shaft, the plate that I was missing looks the correct thickness to take the movement away. I accept that the crank bolt isn't torqued up yet but the play seems to much for this alone?

hope someone can answer these two important questions for me...:)

Cheers

Hi, here is a picture of the part insitu as it came of my engine, hope this helps

That does help... confirms that the plate does indeed go where the PET drawing shows, it also shows that the balancing weights that I have are not a generic feature.... may i ask which year your car is?... perhaps it's only early cars which may have had a little more time spent on them setting things up before cost cutting took hold? If your car is an early example 85-86 then I have no idea why the weights would be there?

Many thanks

Pete

Hi, all these parts are from 944 S2 engines. Here is another shot of one i have had plated ready for another engine build.
I ended up with three engines to do two builds to source these sort of parts which are no longer available from Porsche, like the crank craddle studs which I binned on strip down expecting them to be easily available.
These parts that are N/A can only force the prices up as the second hand parts become scarcer. So start hoarding now !

looking very nice, wish I had the gear for doing this at home... thought I best post what mine looks like.... I guess there's two possibilities.... the three disks are timing marks or they are some sort of balancing... would be nice if someone knowledgeable about the early turbo's knows the answer. If they are timing marks then I need to ensure they go back where they belong although i would have thought that they would only be able to go on in one position which is certainly not the case?
