Part number confusion

Would appear that a number of enthusiast's are in search of Cup 1's at the moment.
I'm a little confused in regard to the PET numbers. According to the enthusiast's 'bible' by Adrian Streather;
The 17" 7J Front wheel with 55 offset is identified as 965-362-124-00 or 965-362-124-01, (not sure why a different number for the same wheel) however, the ones that I have seen for sale; described as genuine Porsche; depict the last 2 digits as -06 [&:]
Why have 3 different part numbers for the same part?
I'm sure someone could shed a logical explanation! what do you folks think?

Paul,

As far as I know, the last 2 digits of ANY Porsche part number relate to a revision of the part - the number is increased each time the part is revised for whatever reason. The reason could be one of many - perhaps a new tool, a change to the alloy mix, a different supplier even, the choices are huge. The main part number will stay the same provided the part remains functionally the same and, generally, interchangeable with earlier versions.

Regards

Dave

I have though, when ordering parts using the PET catalogue, noticed that for some items the last two digits of 01/02 or 00 have referred to left hand or right hand...

Have you got an example of that Marcus? In my experience, Left and right differences are usually designated in PET by changes in the digits in the last group of three e.g

Part numbers for the RS front droplinks are:

left: 964 343 071 80
right: 964 343 072 80

soory you have got that wrong, as previously said its usually modifications

understood... apologies, I should have meant the 3rd number group on some part numbers that I ordered denoted either l/h or r/h..

Dont be so hard on yourself, you were correct in that some parts (not many) the 00 is left and the 01 is right, 993 brake ducts, 911 rear lens seals to name 2

Thanks for the replies. I knew there must have been a logical explanation. The Germans are so particular when it comes to detail !!
