Part number meaning???

Can anyone help, I have a indicator stalk fitted to my 911 which is not original, changed I think because of the type of steering wheel. It is part number 928 613 308 00. I have the opportunity to purchase one, part number 928 613 316 00, can anyone tell me the difference or the potential difference between these two parts. In other words what does the third batch of numbers represent?

Graham,

The first part number you mention is the correct column switch for a standard 1989 964 with just the headlamp, indicator and wiper/washer controls. There are a variety of other combinations to include operation of the On Board Computer as well as different markets - in fact, there are 5 other part numbers, just for the 1989 car. From 1990 onwards the switch was changed to a 964.xxx part number - and there are 30 more of those!!

The second part number you gave comes up as fitted to the 968 up to 1993 for cars without headlamp washers.

Unfortunately there is no logical relationship between function and part number - only PET can identify the part number.

Regards

Dave

Okay Dave, thanks for your response, too risky to purchase the part with the incorrect number. The washer jet part of the stalk is faulty and it is a bit irritating using the intensive button on the dash!
Will have to wait until one comes up, glad it's an original part though! Do you know of any good second hand place that might have one?

Cheers

Graham.
