Both my ignition coil pack covers are badky corroded, breaking up and need replacing. Have looked in the parts catalogue on-line but cannot find them. Anybody help with the part number and approx cost please. Also are they available from somewhere like Porscheshop as well as an OPC. Car is a 996 MY03 Tip. Are they a reasonable DIY job? Many thanks

This should provide a rough idea:

Thanks for both. Europarts provide coils and plugs but not rhe weathershield. I had found part 37 in the parts catalogue but its description as a heatshield is different to that provided by my OPC when they serviced the car - they called it 'Bank 1 & 2 ignition coil pack covers' which reduces the amount of road muck and wet getting up onto the coils from the road etc.- perhaps it is the same thing. Looks like another call to the OPC parts department.

I can't see any other sort of cover under there (I've been in the garage and had a good look underneath).
Although these thin metal plates provide some protection from dirt and water their primary function is as heat shields as the exhaust maniforlds runs right across in front of them.
Without them the heat from the manifold glowing red would soon cook the tops of the coil packs. So I'm not suprised Porsche call them such.
Here's a couple of shots taken by poking my iPhone underneath. In the first one you can see the shield along it's length over the head/coil packs and in the other shot you can see one of the coil packs

Thanks for the pics - all much clearer now. Having crawled under mine as best I could and using a mirror I can see the ofending part is as you describe and yes it is the part mentioned in the OPC report. My offside shield is badly corroded and starting to break up at the front end although the rest of the length is fine. The near side one is unmarked. Changing the shield should be fun as I see 2 potential issues - first if the bolts are seized and shear off and secondly getting at the rear bolt which is tucked in above the manifold exit pipes - thin multi-jointed hands and fingers required here probably. I'm not 100% but I think the part your after is marked 37 in the diagram below
3.4 Heat Shield 996.104.425.02 £15.66 inc VAT
3.6 Heat Shield 996.104.445.02 £15.24 inc VAT
It's the same part both sides
I thought they were Left/Right ?
