Partial leather seats

I have to say this confused the heck out of me when I bought my 987C.2 recently. It was listed as 'partial leather seats', but they were obviously all leather. Apparently, 'partial leather' meant "leather seats, but leatherette finish to dash and door cards (sir)". Presumably it is the same with the 981C?
 
My understanding is that the whole seat is made from the same material, which is a mixture of leather and synthetic material. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
 
Any seat experts out there? What exactly is leather on the 'partial leather' seats of my 981 Cayman S?

The bits you sit on and rest your back against?

The insides of the side bolsters?

The outsides of the side bolsters?

I guess the back isn't - and TBH I don't really care about this.

The dealer assured me that 'your seats are leather' but I'm not convinced...
 
i have partial leather on my current car. the partial applies to the car, not the seats. which are indeed leather. as above other 'touch points' like wheel, door handles, centre armrest, pdk knob are also leather. Jon
 
Partial leather is not the seats being made 'partially of leather' it's that the car interior is partially (i.e not all of it0 leather.

Thanks Chris. I as told this by someone who had a Focus ST with partial leather seats. I'll tell him to get a proper car,
 
Just to add to the confusion: for the 981 Cayman, Porsche state that the optional leather package "adds a leather finish to the instrument surround, centre console storage compartment lid, seat centres, side bolsters and headrests, door armrests and door pulls. With the leather package, the door pulls feature a silvercoloured trim strip, which accentuates the dynamic and sweeping design of the interior". Also there are "leather appliqués on selected features, such as the steering wheel rim, gear lever/selector and door handle inlays. In the Cayman S, the door armrests and the storage compartment lid on the centre console are also finished in leather as standard". However, I think that on my 987.2 Cayman S these were part of the leather package. Presumably the partial leather option includes some of those options, but don't ask me which ones, and I've a feeling that partial leather seats have leather seat centres and headrests but leatherette side bolsters. Jeff, just as I was feeling good as a result of the other posts, you've brought me down again. [:)] To me, out of all the seat components the bolsters look most like leather... I wish I'd specified full leather but I didn't because the configurator suggested the cost was nearly £2100 (how much?!), whereas the correct price is a mere £1350 or thereabouts.
 
Sorry about that Peter. It does make you think that if Porsche were clearer on this topic, they might get a better take-up on the leather options. Jeff
 
Not sure if this helps for a 981 purchase but for the 987 Gen I the partial leather option is the bits you sit against i.e.; Inside of side bolsters, Seat centres and Seat integrated head restraints (this is taken from the October 2008 987 price list book) Partial leather was standard on the 987S and a £729 option for the 2.7 Cayman. Looking at the current price for partial leather, £744, one assumes it will be the same for the 981. But, until I read the brochure with the accompanying drawings it was difficult to see what was what.
 
That description would certainly make sense Nick, the leatherette being present on the bolster edges and not the facings. Mind you, £744 is a lot of money to pay for a few small strips of leather to replace the alcantera seat centres and head restraints..! Hope Peter feels a little happier now. Jeff
 
Not wishing to state the obvious, but, have you tried asking Porsche GB HQ in Reading? I am surprised the current price list doesn't have the detailed drawings that were in the 2008 one. No doubt another example of cost saving.
