Passenger airbag deactivation (986)

Atfield

New member
Is there a safe (and preferably inexpensive) way of deactivating the passenger airbag on my 2004 986 Boxster?

I'm keen to introduce my 6 year old twin grandsons to the delights of Porsche open-air motoring.

Note: I'll only be carrying one at a time!

Apologies if this has already been asked and answered.

Many thanks,

David

ask your OPC to install a passenger airbag deactivation switch.

You can always use a normal toggle switch instead of buying the "airbag deactivation bar"

The bars turn up on eBay and forums quite a bit. If your going to use a non Porsche seat you'll also need a buckle which Porscheshop.co.uk sell. Have a look at eBay and item number 291169187062 as another option.

I'd a problem with my OPC and getting my bar coded properly. They told me the bar was broken when it was not. When the system is correctly set, and you plug in the buckle, the airbag light will flash for 1min and then go off. The OPC did not wait the 1min.... ;-)

I've also got some rope tied to the buckle, that I hook over the gearstick so I remember to take it out.
